I called Blackmagic and the answer turned out to be installing an older version of the driver. Which worked, so I’m back in business.
I guess I would suggest calling BMD first as they seem kind of slow to answer email help desk requests and aren’t monitoring this forum.

I don’t have the deck here right now, but I will in a day or so and will test it then. At that point I’ll just be batch capturing the final approved piece (I hope). Thanks so much for the advice – it’s like having you here in the room.
Are you OK with my picking up this thread in a day or so if I run into problems with the 10 bit UC capture? Or maybe a better way of putting it is… if I do run into problems, what should my fallback position be?
Thanks again Jeremy.

Plugging in DVCPRO-HD 1080i60 & 1 GB file size as parameters, I get:
Write: 223 MB/s
Read: 226 MB/sMichael Rothenberg

Oops, I was afraid I would confuse things with my reference to 720.
The project I’m asking about now (sorry about that) is 1080i/29.97. Can I still use 10 bit UC for that?

It’s a 6 drive SATA RAID 0. Not super fast.

Mike,
Thank you SO much. It never fails to amaze me how much ingenuity and generosity some people show. Of course making the Layer Comps was the way to go! This worked perfectly and I am deeply grateful. This is going to make our workflow SO much easier. Mike, if you’d accept remuneration I’d really like to compensate you in some way. Please contact me directly to discuss.
But in the meantime please accept my sincerest thanks.
All the best,

I would think you would do this the same way you’d make a regular alpha channel. Make a selection, then switch over to the Channels palette and click on the “make channel from selection” button at the bottom.
To make the selection, though, you have to help Photoshop “see” the grayscale in the video grab.
1. Bring the matte into Photoshop the same way you did with the other frame grab.
2. Shift-drag to add the matte to your file in the same place.
3. Select the layer, then go to Select>Color Range and play with the fuzziness until you have a selection that approximates the transparency of your matte.
Once you’ve made the alpha channel and are satisfied with it you don’t need the matte layer anymore.
Hope this helps – hope it works!

Thanks. Of course that was the first thing I looked at, but I am looking to do something different and I don’t know how to modify the script.
I want the file exports to ADD each layer to the prior export – in other words, the last export would be a JPEG of the whole file.
Any thoughts?

I noticed it also wasn’t opening Bridge when I used the File>Browse so I reinstalled Photoshop. Working now. I will repost my other question.

Hi Joe
I’m on AXP 5.7 and have had good luck with the workflow you describe for the P2 footage I shot at 24PN. Next I transcoded my Varicam and P2 footage to SD 23.976 for offline and it’s working well. But I am having a separate problem.
I shot some footage time-lapse using the “interval” option on the HVX200. But that required me to change over to “video” and a 60P frame rate during shooting. Now I can’t seem to transcode that footage over to SD 23.976 although I can see it in a 720P 60 project. I can choose transcode from the SD project but nothing happens.
Any ideas or workarounds?
Michael
