I had to go an HDV Easy Setup to work around the problem. But they are terrific and if they know about it I’m confident they’ll update their drivers.

This is very problematic as I can’t blame my procrastination on the hardware. How am I supposed to get a day off from my clients?

Aaron,
I can’t be sure but it sounds to me like that drive is dying. Problems mounting, flashing blue light… are you also hearing any new sounds, esp. clicking noises? That is a sure sign that the drive is about to go.
You can try Disk Warrior, but in my limited experience, it is no help with hardware problems, just corrupted file structures. Can’t help you on the shutting-down issue.
My two cents is IMMEDIATELY back up what must be backed up on your raid… then try a complete erase and restripe. If there’s a bad sector on the drive it will be quarantined through this procedure and you may get a new lease on life.
But protect yourself right away in terms of your data. I just had a LaCie D2 drive die with no warning whatsoever. The quote to recover the data was over $1000 for a 250 GB drive.

Turns out it’s probably a bad card. (Uncompressed 8 bit works fine.) Kona sending me a new one overnight – great support! Will report back if it turns out to be something else. Thanks.

My Easy Setups seem to be corrupted as well. I no longer can use the 8 bit to DV Easy Setup, even if I manually go in and correct the settings.
I see no video in Capture mode – which is odd because if I switch over to the 8 bit Uncompressed Easy Setup everything is fine.
When I edit the Capture settings to [Kona 8-bit digitizer, 29.97, NTSC DVCPRO-DV codec, etc.] I get a strange hash and still no Capturing.
This is very frustrating as this has been my default workflow for large projects – offline in DV, then online in SD or DVCPRO-HD.
Thanks for any advice.

Copying into a new sequence solved the problem.
Thanks so much Gary!!

Thanks, Gary – I think you’re onto it. The sequence was automatically created when I Media Managed from the DV sequence… I did tell MM to make seqs in the new project DVCPRO HD 59.94 – but I got an error message after the MM procedure (before the batch capture) that pointed out the discrepancy in timebase and said the new timebase would be ignored.
The timebase of the sequence in the new project is 29.97, but it’s grayed out.
Can I save myself simply by pasting the sequence clips into a new sequence with the 59.94 timebase?
Thanks for the help.

Good idea; I should have mentioned I had already checked that. There are no Motion or Distort attributes applied.
