  • What version? There was a known bug using DV compression on export creating jaggies in the 5.1-5.2 era of Xpress Pro. Try transcoding to a non DV resolution and try again to see if it is this issue.

  • 1. The variable speed footage must be loaded using capture on the fly or an in-point only. TRUE
    2. Adrenaline can only work with 24fps or 60fps footage. Other frame rates are not supported for creating slo-mo/fast-mo. FALSE. LATREST VERSIONS USE THE VFR FLAG. THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE OVER FIREWIRE CAPTURE.
    3. If we intend to use the 48fps footage both as slo-mo and at regular speed, we will need to load the footage twice. TRUE
    4. We cannot decompose nor consolidate the variable speed footage.YOU CAN CONSILIDATE, AND DECOMPOSE, BUT THE RECAPTURE OF THE DECOMPOSED CLIPS WILL NOT WORK.
    5. We cannot recapture the variable speed footage and have it conform. YOU CAN RECAPTUE THE ORIGINAL MASTER CLIP THAT WAS FIRST CAPTURED.
    6. Use of Varicam footage within Adrenaline will cause infertility and/or dessicated manhood. JUST THE DESSICATED MANHOOD.

Pal Method 1 for 24p should be possible without a Mojo. It is the playback back out when audio is sped up or not depending on output rate (24fps/25fps) that requires a Mojo. If you do the whole project as 25p, then no Mojo is needed.

Treat it as thought it has no mask and then reapply the a matte to the top channel to return the bars to black before going back out to tape. And yes, it is better to work without bars in case you need to change the composition of the frame etc.

It certainly is easier to create PAL from either a 24p edited master or a 30i master that has continuous 2:3 cadence (NORMAL). In your case, you have both ADVANCED and broken cadence at edit points because of the project type.

You can always take your 30i master and run in through a Teranex or other like device to create a PAL master and see what that gives you, or take the time to recapture your film as 24p native via an EDL conversion of your existing timeline.

  • You can capture 23.976 without a Mojo, you need a Mojo for 24p becuase of the sample rate conversion going on from NTSC sources (23.976/29.97).

  • You need to be in a 23.976 project since that is the true frame rate of the camera. Then go to the Film/24p settings and set ADVANCED or NORMAL depending on what you shot. Avid Xpress Pro can capture both directly over FireWire.

June 21, 2006 at 9:46 am in reply to: Avid DVD with 16:9 footage

If you encode it as anamorphic 16:9, the DVD Player itself has settings to display it as 16:9 full height, letterbox or center crop (4:3). If you don’t like the default center crop of 4:3, then you do need to create two master encodings.
