Capture 24P DVCPRO footage with Avid Xpress HD 5.2.4
Hello,
I am working with footage shot on DVCPRO50 camera, in either 24P or 24PA. (I believe the footage is laid to tape at 30i)
I’m using the Panasonic AJ-SD93 deck.
I’m using Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.2 to edit.
I would like to capture this footage at 24P is this possible?
When I create a 24P project, and try to capture, the capture option is greyed out? What is this?
I can capture within a 30i project, and I can see that every 4th frame is duplicated, so it is 24P in some sense.Thankyou for any input.

You need to be in a 23.976 project since that is the true frame rate of the camera. Then go to the Film/24p settings and set ADVANCED or NORMAL depending on what you shot. Avid Xpress Pro can capture both directly over FireWire.

Thanks Michael, I’ve been able to capture my footage at 2:3:2:3 (standard), and 2:3:3:2(advanced). How do I know which one is better if I don’t know which way it was shot?
I read on other forums that you can tell if your footage is 24PA if every fourth frame repeats. When I dig my footage in at 29.97, every fourth frame does reapeat. However, our shooters are telling us the tapes were shot at 24P(not advanced) and when i bring it in at standard mode it does look better. The footage that i bring in at advanced mode looks like it have a duplicate frame every once in a while?
Our final show will be go out at 30i and 25PAL, and we’re trying to figure out the optimal workflow?
