That would be the problem. You really need a Quadro card, preferably the Quadro fx1700 or higher.
You may be able to soft-mod your card with a program called RivaTuner. I’ve never personally tried this, but if you want more details on it (a lot of people have had success with the 8800 card), read here:

This typically means a problem with your graphics card. Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, select the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager. Check under Display Adapters to see what card is listed and post back here. I’m guessing you have either an ATI card, or an unsupported nVidia card (the 8800, maybe).

Did you completely uninstall the previous driver before you installed the new one? You should go to your Control Panel and uninstall all nVidia graphics drivers, reboot, install the new drivers, reboot, then try to launch Avid. If you didn’t uninstall the old drivers it may be still trying to read those on reboots.

If you have to disable the sound cards, just go into BIOS and see if you can turn if off there. Once you do that they should be disable ad infinitum, or until you turn them back on.
Otherwise, checkout the SoundBlaster Audigy2 cards. They’re typically recommended for Avid systems and you should be able to find them pretty cheap.

Registration shouldn’t affect whether or not Avid runs. Did it ever run, or is this the first time you tried to launch it? Also, what are your system specs and what version of Avid is this? CPU, graphics card, drivers, OS version (be exact–is it XP Home, XP Pro, Vista Home, Vista Business, 32 or 64-bit, etc…).

The problem is that the Mac DVCProHD codec isn’t available on the PC. The solution is to either transcode your footage to a PC friendly codec, or have your PC guy buy something like Raylight, which will decode the Mac DVCProHD codec for a PC.

When you apply the Magic Bullet effect, hold Alt as you drag it and don’t release Alt until the effect is applied. If you don’t hold Alt it removes the first effect (in this case, Color Correction) and replaces it with the second effect (Magic Bullet).

Red just recently pulled out too. Apparently they’ll have cameras at a lot of booths with vendors showing Red support, so they’re not setting up their own display. They’ll have a presence by proxy.

Animatte in Avid, or if you’re on a Symphony Nitris play with the secondary color correction. Since I’ve never used a Symphony I can’t help you with how, but the secondary is there so it’s worth a shot.
