    Hi,

sorry if it was discussed before… i just cant find the reply. (It you know the thread please let me know)

One editor on Mac (FCS2) and other on PC (PPro). Clips from Mac cant be played in Qtime Player or imported to Premier Pro. It reports codec problem.

What is the problem and what is the solution? What is the standard workflow for such case.

thank you in advance for any help or suggestion,
    Andrei B.

The problem is that the Mac DVCProHD codec isn’t available on the PC. The solution is to either transcode your footage to a PC friendly codec, or have your PC guy buy something like Raylight, which will decode the Mac DVCProHD codec for a PC.

    Hi Michael,

Do you mean the Raylight decoder?

If this is the case then that would be good to know! I may be getting a HPX-170 sometime soon.

SHeer won’t help you here unless you prepare Sheer files for them and they download the codec.

ALso, are you working with p2 footage?

yes, whole the footage is P2 shot with HVX200E 720p50. Most of the footage is 50 fps and some interviews are 25 fps.

We both can import p2 files and edit in the timeline natively but problem is that we can not exchange the files. If I edit and export it in native format then he can not open it and if he uses decoders then he has to render. And if he export his timeline to QT file (Apple Animation), then it is not native for my psequence and must be rendered.

    thanks, Andrei

I have a very similar problem: I shoot a Dj Session with Panasonic HVX-200,720p50, then I made “log and transfer” in FCP and burn the resultant clips onto DVD`s. I gave the DVD`s to the Dj, who was supposed to make the edition, but he is editing in a PC with Sony Vegas 7.0 and he can´t even play the clips. What codec would be the appropiate for him? Any suggestion?

Hi Everyone. This is my first post. Sure hope i can help someone out.

I had the same problem playing dvcpro content on a pc.
Finally i ended up buying the DECODER from one of the mentioned 3rd parties in this thread and all worked fine.

Just for the record. ONLY buy the ENCODER stuff if your final movie has to be converted to DVCPRO from another codec. It will save you around 100 bucks.

Looked for freeware or opensource around the net and could not find any.
