Actually Matt, if you search this forum you will find it comes up all the time. The solution is simple. If you are exporting a file to be used to create a broadcast master or DVD, you leave it anamorphic.
If the file is for web or computer based playback, you set the pixel aspect to 16:9. This can be done easily with a calculator or by downloading this cute app (aspect ratio 1.8,)which does it for you.

Just enter your current pixel aspect and it will tell you the settings to use on export. -
I suggest you purchase a firewire cable and connect it to your mac and see if FCP can control the device. The fact that it has a firewire I/O should mean it is just as controllable as any DV device

FCP will work better with a .mov quicktime, not an AVI file.

There is no setup for H264 as FCP cannot edit this codec without constant render, so this advice only works with editing codecs.

Like all AVCHD cameras the H264 files need to be converted before editing to an edit codec like ProRes.
As to whether Log & Transfer will work – don’t know. I suggest you hire or borrow a camera an do some tests.

Just send them the NTSC digi beta and ask them to do a standards conversion to PAL

Are you mixing the two codecs in the one sequence?

An EDL needs both t/c and a reel number. A live captured file doesn’t have a reel number so recapturing off tape via an EDL will be a problem.
Why don’t you capture as a .mov on a PC. They can do it.

The HDW 1800 has a downconvertor to SDI. I presume you are actually capturing HD footage, but wanting the SD downconvert, or do you have an HDCam that plays digi beta?
Either way, the SDI outputs to Kona SDI inputs are the best way to capture. Also the issue may be the field dominance setings. Check the menu in the HDW1800 to make sure your field dominance output matches your capture settings. In PAL this is easy because it is all upper, but NTSC might be swapping dominance from HD to SD

What version does it work properly on? It may be a bug that was fixed in 6.0.5 or perhaps you have an older buggy version of quicktime.
