    Hi everybody,

I’m looking for the best approach to log and capture 15hrs of material from my old Sony DHR1000. I don’t have the means to rent a decent deck for this project, so I have to make do with what I have.

I hardly ever used the DHR1000 so I’m not familiar with it. I don’t even own a fw cable for it… As far as I can tell right now the DHR is only supported by older versions of FCP so I reckon I can only use it as a non-controllable device. This means I don’t have the opportunity to log the material and batch capture it when I’m done logging.

I’m considering to just capture all 15 hours of material. I calculated this should only take about 200gb harddrive, which is fine. The problem will be that I’ll end up with 15 clips of 1hr each which doesn’t seem desirable.
I’ve been thinking to either cut up these captured media files, export them and then use the exported clips in a new project, and only refer to the original media files if I need to.

Or I could log and copy the DV tapes to digibeta, and capture from digibeta tapes. However this would mean that I can’t easily refer back to non-logged material.

What would be a good approach in this matter? One of the above, or am I overlooking another option?

    Thank you for your time,

    Gunther.

I suggest you purchase a firewire cable and connect it to your mac and see if FCP can control the device. The fact that it has a firewire I/O should mean it is just as controllable as any DV device

Thanks. I will definitely do that since it doesn’t hurt to try.

I was a bit too qucik asking before trying this, however according to the Apple Support pages the DHR1000 is only supported by older versions of FCP.

    Thanks again!

Firewire Basic easy setup is likely to be the most compatible

I just captured video footage using this setup…

    In FCP>Easy Setup>

    Format: NTSC
    Rate: 29.97 fps
    Use DV-NTSC

    Setup
