[Andrew Saliga] ” I have an NTSC project that needs to be output as both PAL and NTSC. “

You need to have your project converted to PAL before it gets to the deck. The deck itself cannot perform the standards conversion. This requires a Terranex converter.

Contact PostWorks in New York. We use them for this very service.

    Thanks for the tip Walter.

I knew hardware would be needed for this conversion, at least for the best quality output. Would the service I send the master Digi-Beta to not have a Terranex?

So, Walter, you’re saying that I’ll have to send them a digital that I’ve converted so they can use their PAL deck for output?

Just send them the NTSC digi beta and ask them to do a standards conversion to PAL

Nope, just send your NTSC master tape to them.

This is a dumb question – there are a bunch of NTSC to PAL converters out there….I have the same situation: I have to deliver a PAL Digibeta Master of an NTSC show that is currently on my FCP system. If I feed a signal through an NTSC to PAL converter to an NTSC Digibeta Deck, is that master going to be recorded in PAL? I know this is is such a dumb question…

Unfortunately the answer is no. You must use NTSC hardware to record NTSC, and PAL hardware to record in the PAL format. I’d be surprised if the NTSC deck would receive any signal.

In my situation I took my tape to a local dubbing and duplication service. I paid around $65 for converting 11 minutes of NTSC BetaSP footage and laying it to another Beta in PAL.
