I presume you are wanting to re digitise selected material. Did you try putting that material into a sequence, Media Manage to make an offline version in Prores codec and then batch recapture?
Also why not just use compressor to convert the XDCam to ProRes. Recapture is going to take longer than batch converting files already in the system I would have thought.

Strange sequence settings. What is your intended output for this edit? If it is broadcast, then the frame size is non standard.
Also depending on the final usage, you may not need interlacing so field dominance might be none not lower.
I don’t know what a layered .FCP file is. Where did it come from?
Is it just this sort of file in the sequence or is there other footage?

We need some basic info here. What are your sequence settings, what format/codec are the “pretty high resolution images”. How are you monitoring the image ( FCP screen and external monitors etc).

The file size limit is inherent in the FAT32 format so only reformatting will solve the problem. You will need to use another drive that is mac formatted and drives are cheap these days.

Confusing. Chris’s article says to open the log & capture window, but you have to read down the comments to find the clue that it isn’t a batch capture process but a capture now.
Perhaps that is the problem for those that have struggled with this setup. Go to the bottom of the comments and work up.

The best way to fry a drive is to use different power supplies. The manufacturers supplied power supply is the one to use. I get annoyed when people send me two drives that are different capacity and the power supplies are bundled together so I can’t tell which one belongs to the drive.
When you get your repaired drive back, label it and the power supply and threaten death to anyone who uses the wrong one.

How is your hard drive formatted? You may be hitting a file size limit if it is FAT32 formatted.

Like the 5Dmk2 the 7D shoots H264 codec. This must be converted to an editing codec like ProRes (1920 x 1080 so same pixel aspect), before ingesting into FCP. Do not just drop the .mov files into FCP as it will play badly and need rendering.
Use compressor to do the batch conversion. You might also want to use Compressor to slo mo the 60fps down to 24 using frame controls. Now the big question – is the 24 frame mode actually 24 or is it 23.976? Canon has been driving this forum nuts with people trying to get the 5D footage to correct speed of 29.97 from the 30 native. I don’t know what they have done with regards 24fps, but I wait with baited breath.
At least Canon have corrected the audio sample rate to 48khz in the 7D. With the 5Dmk2, the audio had to be converted as well. Pity it seems to be auto gain.

Those files are for a DVD. The audio is separate, probably an ac3 file or it could be mpeg2 or PCM.
