Having difficulty converting .VOB formated videos.
Greetings
I recently received a Batch of clips in the format (.VOB) clips from a client. I attempted to convert them to .DV and .MOV files but lost the audio in the process. When they originally came they played in a video player called MPEG Stream clip, with the audio and picture.Even if I take the original .VOB files and put them in FCP the audio does not play.
I have not worked with these files before today and I am feeling a little perplexed as to why the audio is taken away after converting. Does anyone have any information about how to remade this situation?

Those files are for a DVD. The audio is separate, probably an ac3 file or it could be mpeg2 or PCM.

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to something else.

As it turns out the .VOB files are MPEG program Stream. I have not seen any sign of a separate audio file. but that does not mean that they don’t exist. When I open them up with VLC the clips still have audio.
Any further Ideas?

Once you open the .VOB file up in MPEG Streamclip, you want to go to File > Export to Quicktime. This will allow you to export the .VOB files to quicktime in whatever format you want with audio included. You don’t want to try to edit with the .VOB files directly.

Open the Stream Info window in MPGStreamclip and see what are you dealing with.
Export to QT should work.

This is the kind of things that makes crash FC.
VOB is not any kind of editable file.

Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio first, then export the new file to DV.

This ay you get a DV Stream (.dv) file. That’s the iMovie native files. They have to be rendered in FC.
If you want to extract the full quality of the VOBs, convert to 8b Uncompress or Prores.

Yes, DVCpro or PotoJPEG 75% are good options for converting an MPEG-2 from a DVD.
