Mixed frame rates are a bad idea. I would never recommend mixing 25 and 30 frame.

The Canon also shoots H264 which is not an edit codec so all the footage needs to be converted to an edit codec like ProRes 422. Also the sound is 44.1 khz so that needs to be converted to 48khz as well.

So in a nutshell the canon shoots the wrong frame rate, the wrong codec and the wrong sound sample rate. Poor choices and a bit too late to be asking for workflow advice after a big mistake.

Bit hard to guess without information on what codec you are capturing, how you are capturing (firewire or capture card), version of FCP, computer specs etc, drive type you are capturing to (ie firewire, esata etc).

Normally the color mask correction and polarity flip is done in the telecine.

You might try the RGB balance instead of the 3 way CC or if you have Final Cut Studio send to Color and try the individual color curves in the primary.

Connect the DV camera directly to FCP via firewire. You don’t need anything else but straight firewire to capture DV.

Sample based editing is the ability to edit on any sample and move clips in samples. FCP always cuts on the frame although you can move clips sub frame. Also sample based editors can do crossfades shorter than 1 frame which in PAL is 2000 samples @ 48khz.

SO what happens when the audio is exported via OMF? You know the AUpitch plugin is ignored by the OMF, so all the sound post people get are a whole lot of clips with the speed changes but not pitch corrected.

Doing a good quality speed/ pitch correction is not trivial. Most audio editing devices have licensed third party software like MPEX3 or Pitch ‘N Time.

However the license fee for this software is more than the upgrade price of FCS3 so don’t hold your breath for a picture editing system to include a high end audio plugin.

FCP doesn’t have a lot of basic audio editing functions like sample based editing and is not likely to. I can do basic picture editing on my Fairlight DAW but I don’t expect it to match FCP so why does everyone expect a low price video editor to be a high end audio device?

Sounds like a simple field order problem, something that is answered here almost every day.

Try a search of the forum and then if you have unresolved questions, then we will need a lot more information about your originating format, sequence settings, computer configuration, external monitoring and I/O cards.

The best workflow to DVD has been covered here many times. Perhaps a search of this forum will sort out your problems.

Also study up on field order and again searching here will answer a lot. For the record, I would not be shooting and editing in DV codec with an HDV camera.

If it is an mpeg2 for broadcast it should be 50i.

Firstly your Easy setup must match the footage.

Secondly have you trashed preferences. This is a common issue and I have seen it fix firewire related problems often.
