I have capture DV cam tapes before effortlessly. I connect the camera via Firewire, get ‘deck’ control, hit ‘play’ and then “Capture Now”. The entire clip goes in then that clip is sub-clipped and I cut the sequence.

Now, when I hit “Capture Now” the playback stops, then I get an message that says it is trying to find a timecode break. It is futile as there really is no timecode break. For the past week I have been unable to capture anything using my little Canon ZR 500.

The curious thing is that even tapes that I have captured before give the same error message that there are time code breaks and it sops. I always use the setting that says to “make new clips” on timecode breaks but it seems to want to find breaks where there are none.

It must be a setting I inadvertently changed. I’v also tried a different firewire cable to no avail. I would appreciate any one’s help as the footage is piling up! Thank you!

You need to fiddle with your capture-device settings. (google)!

Set it to firewire. standard of some sort. you should be able to just get a straight line video into the capture window, and just hit “NOW” in the capture window.

Firstly your Easy setup must match the footage.

Secondly have you trashed preferences. This is a common issue and I have seen it fix firewire related problems often.

If you have not trashed preferences before then search this forum.
