After Effects perhaps. Maybe Affinity or Fusion, but they are not Adobe products

Perhaps your timeline is 24, even though the project settings are 25.

One possibility is the drivers are not up to date for Resolve 17.

You can both sync and output transcodes using Resolve. Depending on what workflow your post people want, you should talk to them about that. File names matter. Timecodes matter. Really not easy to advise specifics that may or may not suit the ongoing workflow. As a DIT, you really must be talking to the whole post team – picture and sound.

I guess when the laptops are freely available and people start testing them you might get feedback on various forums about performance. Blackmagic always publish recommendations for minimum requirements but they don’t test and compare hardware specifically. Well perhaps they do but only for themselves, not for the public.

One possibility is that Resolve doesn’t have the font used to create the original subtitle. In substituting the font, sometimes it causes a line wrap which is what seems to be happening here. Before importing a project or timeline from another system, I always ask the editor to supply me with the font used or at least tell me what it is so I can check before importing

Resolve has come a long way in the past five years. You might be shocked how good 17.3.2 is. Lots of bugs and behaviour fixes but also a whole lot of performance and stability improvements too. But don’t expect any bug fixes in such an old version like 12.5

Mocha tracking in Fusion must have used a Boris plugin. The question might be something that Boris tech support can inform you of. It’s way beyond my pay grade.

On the odd occasion I run Resolve on my laptop, I sometimes see the image stuttering like that. Basically it is because my GPU is below spec. Your iMac probably also has a GPU below recommended spec for Resolve. The problem trying to run 4k footage for example boils down to the VRAM on the GPU.

Yes Resolve can run Sony codecs directly without transcoding so the only reason to transcode is if you need to run smaller proxys on an under powered computer like 1080 instead of 4K or bigger frame sizes

  • The first dongle I got is still working with the 17.3.1 Studio version. So that’s about 8 or 9 years and from Resolve version 8 onwards.
