Thanks David. I have a DSR-11 Deck. However, I was going to try using another computer with an Apple DVI to S-Video adaptor. Then capture into my AJA IO connected to my FCP Computer. Any opinion?

Or import them into Pro Tools and export the AIFFs into FCP

“Could you possibly be capturing with the fields in the wrong order?”

I’m using a stock AJA Composite to DV Codec. The same as I’ve always used. Dumb question-How would I know if the fields are in the wrong order?

“Is your Beta deck locked to the same reference as your IoLa?”

Yes- I have a BB Gen going to both

I’m wondering if this is too late for ya, but with a DA98- you’re set to go. Just use the AES outs from the 98 into the AES Ins on the IO. With a DA88, you’d need the Tascam IF-AE8 convertor to convert TDIF to AES.

  • FYI, there are no versions of Pro Tools that allow you to mix bit rates. Everything needs to be converted to 16 or 24 bits beforehand.

  • This is correct. Mixing bit lengths (24-bit with 16-bit) is not a problem. Mixing Sample frequencies is less desireable. I’m not sure if the FCP timeline can combine 16 & 24 bit, but you can easily convert the 24 bit files to 16 bit. There are many programs that will do this in batch. Download a trial version of Sound Grinder. It does a great job at converting Audio files of many formats.

Today, I exported a QT Movie instead of a DV Stream and all is good! I didn’t see that option and thought a DVD Stream was the same- Not!!

It’s a project that’s being edited for me in Premier. They haven’t started editing yet. I’m anticipating wanting to tweak & archive in FCP it when they’re done.
