The media is definitely on the media drive… You did give me an idea to try uninstalling and re-installing the KONA driver though.

I see the AJA released new drivers for the KONA today, I think I’ll stick to the 5.1 version though, no reason to through a brand new driver in to the mix too!

  • Not sure your exact issue, but if you are looking for a quick fix:

Export the video as 720 x 480 Animation codec and import that into FCP. You will need to render to playback from your timeline, but that way FCP will do the work for you and take out the guesswork.

Try cueing up the tape so you are parked on a valid timecode before you open the log and capture window. I have a deck that will default to sending DF info unless there is a tape in there.

    Try this:

Mark your in and Out. Move the playhead to a spot that is not on ANY media (before or after the video in your sequence)

    Pretty weird “feature” though….

I’ve never checked for the menu item, but if you have an in and out marked and you hit cmd+r, it should render between your marks only.

If not, try this: use the arrow tool and select the clip you want to render (so it turns brown). Hit cmd+r and just that clip will render.

Or, hit the “g” key 3 times to get the range selection tool and higlight just the part of a clip you want to render. Only the highlighted part will render

Under the “Tools” menu selecy “Quick Preview” and you will get alittle preview window so you don’t even have to wait for a render to finish.

MPEGStreamclip is the best mpg player I’ve found for the Mac. The MPG files I compress for DGFST using Cleaner 6 look terrible on a Mac though. I’ve never had a problem with QC, and the spots look fine when I see them air.

I always get a beta master with closed captioning back so I make sure to check that also before the spot airs.

Gary, my company uses the DG Drop box (ftp site) rather than using their hardware box.

Just glancing through this topic and one thing stuck out at me: You captured in 1080i50 (as in 50 frames per second), but it sounds like your footage is 1080i 29.97 (29.97 frames per second).

Are you working in the US? If so, you should be working with US frame rates based on 29.97 exclusively (or 23.98). In this case, it should be 1080i60. I would imagine having this descrepency could cause seemingly random flashes every so often to account for the different frame rates.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure how you could fix this issue without recapturing.

May 1, 2008 at 2:00 pm in reply to: HDX 900 timecode out over HD-SDI?

Short answer: No. FCP does not recognize TC over SDI.

What I have been doing is taking the SD-SDI output from the camera with TC overlay on. Digitize it and then watch the footage to get my best takes. Once I know which takes I need, I have to manually copy the TC info from the image into new clips which I then Batch Capture once I’m back in the edit room. Not ideal, but if I do this more opften I will be able to justify the IoHD which eliminates all of this manual work.

Another option you could look in to is using the AJA Kona VTRXchange Application to capture the clips. That app can read the TC over SDI, and I think it worked with my IoLD (but I can’t remember for sure). The clips you digitize there will come in to FCP with acurate TC

Have you tried using the black and code buton in the ETT window? Set the deck to TCG REGEN and then try to black the tape from FCP. You set the TC Start time and DF or NDF in FCP.

You can either black the whole tape and then insert audio and video, or if you are in a hurry, black the first minute or so, rewind the tape and ETT using Assemble. The deck will REGEN where your Assemble begins (assuming you have TC where the edit starts and the deck is set to REGEN)

This is a ridiclous post. You don’t know anything about what this person is trying to do yet you say they won’t be happy with the product.

I bought an AJA Io several years ago and have since bought several more, plus several Kona cards because I have been extremely happy with the quality and reliability of their products, not to mention their first class support.

On the other hand, I have bought 2 Blackmagic products (both Multibridge Pros) and have had nothing but problems with them. Each have been sent back several times (one going back today actually if I can get an RMA number) and we have had to fight customer support to get the problems resloved. At NAB this year I will be heading to AJA’s booth to look for products to replace these.

Back to this post: I can’t tell you about the AJA 4:4:4 codec, but I will say AJA has a very good reputation on Creative COW with some of the most respected editors on these boards. Head over to the AJA Kona forum and ask your question and the Pros over there will be able to tell you all you need.
