  • Editing footage pulled off a DVD with Streamclip in Final Cut 6

I am trying to pull footage off a couple DVDs and edit them in Final Cut 6 for an actor’s reel. I am using Mac the Ripper and Mpeg Streamclip to create Quicktime files I can use in Final Cut. I export them from Streamclip as “Apple DV/DVCPRO” files at 720 x 480 frame size, 100% quality, interlaced scaling and reinterlace chroma. It looks pretty good once I get it into Final Cut but the problem is when I try to export it with Compressor to make Mpeg2 files that I can use to make a DVD. I’ve tried it a couple different ways and the final product comes out either fuzzy (pixelated) or the aspect ratio is incorrect (flattened…i.e 16/7 as opposed to 16/9).

Should I be exporting the files out of Mpeg Streamclip in a different format from Apple DV/DVCPRO? Is this just a weird Compressor issue? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Josh

Not sure your exact issue, but if you are looking for a quick fix:

Export the video as 720 x 480 Animation codec and import that into FCP. You will need to render to playback from your timeline, but that way FCP will do the work for you and take out the guesswork.
