January 11, 2006 at 10:23 pm in reply to: FCP output files not accepted by DVD Studio Pro?DVDSP thinks it’s PAL and that’s what matters. What are the particulars of the file your trying to import. Codec etc. Is it 24P? If the file meets the requirments of DVDSP then it’s SP’s problem. If it is DV video then test it in iDVD and Toast if you have it. We need more info to help.

How are you delivering this video? DVD, computer file, etc. If it is for DVD I have bad news for you.
Mpeg-2 is SD (Standard Definition) = 720X480. Your HD project will always be scaled down to fit within that. The Mpeg-2 video stream will not handle that amount of information. If you want a true HD picture you’ll need to output to a HD codec like H.264 or DVCPro HD. These will not play on a DVD player. DVD is only Mpeg-2. If you need to export the same thing on your timeline just export to quicktime at current settings. That will make one really big self-contained HD movie. -

Just use an DV/NTSC easy setup and the timeline and importing is set up for you. You should not need to render the video unless you add an effect or transition or have many audio tracks. If the footage doesn’t match the timeline you’ll always be rendering. When importing audio I always convert it to 48 khz 16 bit first and then I don’t have to render the audio as much.
Hope this helps-

MAC AUDIO INPUTS ARE LINE LEVEL NOT MIC LEVEL. YOU NEED TO BOOST THE SIGNAL BEFORE IT HITS THE MAC. TRY https://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic2/

January 9, 2006 at 5:36 pm in reply to: want to go to vhs to DVD…what’s the best way to render out the file(s)?YES, ALL DVDS ARE MPEG-2. IT’S AN UGLY FACT OF LIFE. IF THIS IS FOOTAGE YOU WISH TO PASS DOWN THROUGH THE AGES TRANSFER TO MINIDV AND STORE FOR NOW. HD-DVD IS COMING AND I’M WAITING. I TOOK ALL MY HOME VIDEO FROM 8MM AND TRANSFERED TO DV. THE QUALITY IS HIGHER THAN DVD FOR THE TIME BEING.
IF THIS IS FOR A CLIENT THEN THE PREVIOUS POST WORKS WELL. DEPENDING ON HOW LONG THE VIDEO YOU WANT TO PUT ON DVD IS WILL DETERMIN YOUR COMPRESSION RATE AND WHETHER IT WILL BE A DVD 5 (4.7GB DISC) OR A DVD 9 (8.5 DUAL LAYER). IF YOU HAVE A-PACK (NOT SURE IF IT CAME WITH EXPRESS) YOU CAN COMPRESS THE AUDIO TO AC-3 AND PUT MORE BITS TO THE VIDEO PORTION OF THE DVD.
Hope this helps-

WHAT CODEC ARE QT MOVIES IN? WITH THE LAPTOP ABOUT THE ONLY CODEC YOU’LL BE EDITING WITH IS DV. IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY COULD BE UNCOMPRESSED VIDEO WHICH TAKES A LOT OF HORSE POWER TO PLAY. IF IT NEEDS TO RENDER WHEN YOU DRAG IT INTO THE TIMELINE THEN RENDER IT AND SEE IF IT PLAYS. MY BET IS THAT YOUR QTS NEED TO BE IN A DIFFERENT CODEC OR YOU’LL JUST NEED TO RENDER THEM IN THE TIMELINE.
