Did you install OSX the right way? Wipe Harddrive>Install OSX>Install FCP and other pro apps?
Hope this helps-

The PAL DV may look poor on your computer screen, but output the video to a TV monitor and you’ll see good quality video. How was the video shot? Did you use a special frame rate? Interlaced or Progressive? Did you use an FCP “Easy Setup”?
The video could look bad if you are not used to it and understand the computer gives you a “rough” version of the video to look at on screen. The computer is saving computing cycles for all the other things it’s doing.
The Mpeg-4 is very processor intensive. Your G3 processor may not be up to the challenge of playing the bit rate of the mpeg you compressed to.
When you say you “burned it”, how did you burn it? What codec? What program? How did you play it?
Hope this helps-

Won’t do real time tiles like that, especially with drop shadow. There are no real time cards or work flows that I know of.

If your doing SD 10 bit spend the money and go SCSI. Cheaper than Fiber channel and will keep up with your media requirements. Not sure how much “faster” G-raid are, 800Mb Firewire is 800. Just limiting on footage bandwidth. Someone that owns G-raids and LaCie needs to answer that one. I’ve used G-raids but didn’t notice any “performance” difference.

Why do you want to defrag your drive? Are you finding performance problems? I do not defrag my media drives. If you have slow drives and aren’t up to the challenge of video, you really need to get faster drives.
From my experience Norton is not good for 10.4 or higher. That being said I the only maintenance I do is verify permissions and format my media drives every so many projects, about twice a year.
You can use Norton on your FCP system but the real question to me is why? What are you noticing to warrant it?

Your from the PC world, aren’t you? You don’t need to re-install it. Just trash the prefs. Harddrive>Users>YourUser>Library>Preferences>com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
If that dosn’t work then search the posts this has been gone over and over.

If your settings are at DV NTSC then you can only output a selfcontained movie and iDVD should accept it. If not then iDVD is the problem.

Export your timline as a self-contained movie and import, then export that over firewire and see how that works. Sounds like your drives are not up to the challege.
