    Hi,
I see my error. I assumed the VIEW>EXTERNAL wasautomatic when making the easy setup and/or when I change the audio video prefs.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I made sure that the settings were correct, even used the easy setup that Blackmagic provides. I set it up and even quit FCP and restarted to ensure the settings were set properly. The 720 DVCPro easy setup you mentioned was the exact one I was using.

Still only showing one frame where the playback head stops.

Not sure why. I’m wondering if anybody has the same equipment and software versions. If they are the same and it’s working then I would know for sure.

We use the 70 GB REV Drives to backup our Panasonic P2
HD footage. They work, but are slow. I would only use
them as a slightly cheaper form of tape drive for archiving.

July 20, 2007 at 2:08 pm in reply to: COMPRESSOR PROBLEMS

We have upgraded to FCS 2 and find that the new Compressor
has left much to be desired.

For one, the workflow is completely different and I’m not a fan.

My machine won’t even launch the program and we’ve had other Macs
    fail to process our compressions.

The only advice I could give on your problem is to tweak the settings
for the media you are compressing. I heard through this forum that if you change the GOP settings to 7 instead of 15 you will output more I frames and therefore have better quality. We have also had good luck with raising the Mbps which is something you may have to experiment with in order to make a DVD that will work properly.

Maybe some other posters can enlighten both of us on any specifics to try.

    Hope that helps

July 20, 2007 at 1:56 pm in reply to: Problems with importing MFX files to FCP

We also import our P2 footage into a PC and then
to the Mac. What we’ve found is that just copying
the files from our PCMCIA card slot reader
sometimes doesn’t work. Don’t know why.

Our solution was to buy the P2 Genie software and use
that interface to copy files into a folder in our PC.

We make a folder and direct the P2 Genie to copy there.
Then I copy the folder to the Mac and all
is well. The P2 genie software is like 30 bucks, so it’s
    worth it.

    Hope that helps,

July 18, 2007 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Font Suitcase fonts don’t appear in FCP

If you’re using the basic text some fonts will not show all the variations of the font. Sometimes you won’t see the font at all.

If you use Boris Text then you can use anything. There are more options in Boris to tweak it as well. Just look in the drop down menu under the source window.

    Hope that helps

July 18, 2007 at 9:39 pm in reply to: 2 questions

I agree with the comments on USB, although one time in a pinch I edited a 25 min video on a Western Digital drive with no issues. Although I was crying nervously the whole time! G-tech has been great for us in the FW800 or Sata category.

Also, I was told once that many commercial USB drives that are formatted for both PC and Mac use have a limit to an individual file size (Fat32 I think?? not sure) which was somewhere around 6 or 8 gigs. We re-formatted the drive to Mac OS and it was fine. That could be the problem for your USB drive.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks,
    I didn’t realize that they had a forum…

I guess everyone should beware if they upgrade to QT 7.2
    with Flip 4 Mac!!!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the advice!

I just heard that a friend of mine who is waiting for his free 8GB card (with the purchase of the camera) is now going to receive a 16GB card because they ran out of the 8. Pretty sweet!
