  • Problems with importing MFX files to FCP

I am unable to import MXF files into my FCP.

A warning comes up when i try to open the files in the P2 import window: “-has invalid directory structure. Please chose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media”.

I have followed Shane’s tutorial and installed the driver. The MXF files are on my Fat32 formatted external hard drive – they came from HVX200 via a PC. They were shot in 25p at 50fps. I am working on a MacBookPro using FCP v5.1.4.

Is there an extra bit of kit I need to buy/install to import these files? Has anyone else had this problem?

You need to navigate to the CONTENTS folder in the FAT32 external hard disks, or one folder above it. You cannot rename the CONTENTS folder, which contains the subfolders for VIDEO, AUDIO…etc from the original P2.

We also import our P2 footage into a PC and then
to the Mac. What we’ve found is that just copying
the files from our PCMCIA card slot reader
sometimes doesn’t work. Don’t know why.

Our solution was to buy the P2 Genie software and use
that interface to copy files into a folder in our PC.

We make a folder and direct the P2 Genie to copy there.
Then I copy the folder to the Mac and all
is well. The P2 genie software is like 30 bucks, so it’s
    worth it.

    Hope that helps,
    -Matt

    – The DOP named each contents folder as Drop 1, drop 2…etc as they were downlaoded from camera. I then put these with their respective .txt files into a new folder as suggested in the tutorial – are you suggesting that this will cause the files not to be read?

Did he RENAME the Contents folder to DROP 1, DROP 2? Or did he make new folders called DROP 1, and put the CONTENTS folder and txt file in there?

You cannot rename the Contents folder to ANYTHING if you want it to import properly.
