The P2 Genie software we use on our PC works well for copying but the preview software from Panny crashes every time. I still think the laptop is the best way to copy assests from cards – IF – you have a proper viewing solution. Then it’s just a matter of how big your laptop HD is. The Toughbook would be key for this.
I wish for Panny to develop preview software that’s more robust and also make it cross platform…or are they doing this already?

“How many times on every board do we have to go through the discussion of the Brooklyn camera dealers????”Hey, sorry for upsetting you. Just saw the deal and wondered if anyone had bit.
Also, what constitutes a “gray market”? I’m looking to buy and don’t want to run into
any problems with whatever that is.-Matt

Yeah, I agree with you.
I actually called the company and they confirmed the price saying
that they can go this low because they are a wholesaler (who isn’t?). He said
it comes with a 4gb card and all the manufacturer stuff it usually comes with.I assumed it was too good to be true, but I wondered if anyone actually
tried to buy one from them. The forum I mentioned is the same you linked to.

Hey,
Why not try to convert the VOB file directly
from the DVD. MPEG can do that. -
We work with DV, so disregard this if you’re not.
When we import any DV footage captured in FCP our
AE (version 6.5) does not interpolate the footage correctly. It always changes the pixel aspect ratio to Non-square (0.91:1)
and what it should do is interpolate to D1/DV NTSC (0.9)This makes a big difference in the quality of our AE output
back to FCP. Without this video as 0.9 it looks blurry.Don’t know if anyone else has this issue or if there’s a fix
but we just manually switch it over while working in AE.-Matt

If I ever have any errors or major problems with my project concerning
things like reel names, etc. I select the files and right click them
and choose (export>batch list) in a tabbed text file and then open it in excel.(Open in excel as a tab delimited file with general column format.)
Then I can change things there and save it as a tab delimited .txt file, and then import
that as a batch list into FCP and reconnect the media.Sometimes it gives me an error message, but it still seems to work anyway.
When you reconnect, point the files to the name of the original and it should
reconnect and update the timeline as well. Then I would export the edl.The down side is that it may be a bit time consuming if you have to reconnect each file.
Does this help?

Hi,
We have had similar experiences. I assume your using 5.0.X?? The manual says it uses any True Type font, however…The regular text tool does not recognize the variances in some fonts. One of our widely used fonts is Helvetica Neue, which has many different thicknessess etc. which FCP doesn’t display/allow us to use.
What I suggest is the Boris Text feature which is in that same drop down menu under the source window. That will allow any font you want. Although it sounds like your text is already on the timeline. You’ll have to re-edit Boris Text back in. Sorry.
Hopefully FCP will come up with better text functions. I personally liked the Premiere Pro type feature. Which I guess was a form of Type Deko.
Good Luck

We have had good luck with the excell batch list idea, but you are right about the timeline (sequence).
If you want to keep the timeline then make subclips from the timeline and then make them independent clips so they are their own files. If you still have the files linked to the media, then use media manager to copy the timeline’s media to a new folder. Although, I’ve learned (through this forum) that you can’t do that with offline media in version 5.0.x – only in 5.1
Hope that helps.

You know, I’ve found that the newest trend is Flash video. I really like it.
You can really tweak the settings on it and it’s cross platform. Plus it
integrates with flash so well that you can time graphics with it or use a
funky mask over the video while it plays. Now you can even buy an encoder program without having to buy flash. I think
it called on2 technologies.Go check out youtube.com to see lower res video, then go check out the davinci code site which can actually stream full screen video to you if you have a high speed connection.
