    Hi Folks
We’re currently using an ftp site to move media between sites, but large files take hours …and hours!
Wondered if anyone had come across “RevPro” media?
Basicly it’s a hard drive, with removable drives, check out the corny and anoying web site for info: https://www.revprolabs.com/rpl/index.html
What do others use for moving media around? We work at 8bit uncompressed so the files tend to be quite large, and the RevPro disks only hold 35Gig, which I think is quite small…
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers

We send drives quite alot down to London and just use external drives. Normally maxtor or segate.. even the smaller ones.

RevPro is just Iomega Rev by the looks, can’t see any better specs.
Plus it’s usb or FW 400 only.

Your fastest option is something like the new seagate external 500gig with e-sata. The drive comes with options for FW400 and usb2 so other end don’t need e-sata.

    This is one

    HI P
Thanks for that, I was thinking along the same lines, as our audio guys currently use G-Drives to move their media from truck to studio. However my manager had asked me to check the RevPro out.
    Anyone have any other thoughts?

We use the 70 GB REV Drives to backup our Panasonic P2
HD footage. They work, but are slow. I would only use
them as a slightly cheaper form of tape drive for archiving.

    David,

With hard drives so cheap these days, external firewire drives are without question the most economical way to share large video files. And, they are universal, everybody has firewire ports.

Rev drives and the like are very expensive on a per gigabyte basis, and Iomega has never been known as a maker of reliable and long-lasting products.

    Great advice, thanks.
I was sure that an external firewire drive would be the best solution, but I was asked to check out the Rev drives – have you seen the web site?!? https://www.revprolabs.com/rpl/index.html …well worth a laugh, it’s rarther corny!
So thanks for the confirmation. I’m off to buy some firewire drives.
    Cheers
