.mpg as in mpeg 1? if so, why are you using that. I thought that was an outdated format! Why not use .mp4 of H.264.

Flip4MAC works great for me. I have never had issues with it. Plus you can create custom presets in Compressor then and store for later use.

Senrio for ya, If I were to keep the DV sequence and export using Compressor, lets just say that the A/V tab reads its as interlaced (even though I just tried it and it read it as prog properly), is ok to just change it to progressive in that A/V tab? Or should I control that using the frame controls, set the Output fields to Prog and Deinterlace to best. I guess that would be deinterlacing a prog. clip though. Probably not good.

Thanks man. I thought so. And yes, Compressor did recognize it properly as Progressive. I think it did because I copied the finished DV edit and pasted it into a new sequence using ProRes 720×480 anamorphic, 29.97 with dom. set to NONE, then rendered it and exported using compressor.
If I remember correctly from another response you had to one of my questions, that ProRes maintains the progressive setting. Whereas if I exported as DV or even Ucompressed, even though I’ve edited prog, it would show up as Interlaced. ProRes maintains that metadata.
It worked and looks pretty decent. thx.

HolyCOW that was long. But a good read. And easy to understand. I got a question related to this subject. I am about get a finished 12 min. documentary from one of our post facilities. They are sending me a ProRes 720p29.97 file. I have a bunch of DV tapes that were shot at 480i30p. I’ve captured those tapes and edited in a DV NTSC Anamorphic timeline and simply changing the Field Dominance to NONE to accomodate the 30p aspect of it (not 60i).
So, if I’m getting in a 720p29.97 ProRes file from our vendor and need to tack our piece on the end of it, should I upConvert my DV material via Compressor to ProRes 720p29.97? Note, all I have is an BM Intensity Card, no DV deck, only the HVX camera. So I use Compressor via upConverting on ingest. This way when their material gets here I can drop it into a new 29.97 timeline, hit yes to change sequence settings to match clip, then import my new upConverted material and edit that onto the end of theirs normally. DV source material upConverted to match incoming files. Does this sound right? I understand the whole 720p59.94 (59.94 for broadcast) thing but if 29.97 is whats coming to me, shouldn’t I conform to fit that?
I normally shoot 720p30PN with our HVX 200 and edit in a 29.97 timeline. Never had issues with that.
This is not for broadcast, only for web, DVD and possibly private showings (but that will be DVD most likely). Once we’re done, I’ll post the link so show the work.

I too have had this issue with my old machine. MACs tend to be picky when it comes to installing new RAM. I had 6 gigs and went to 9, once installed everything was sluggish. After contacting tech support, they instructed me to install it in a certain way. I don’t remember what that was but he had me organize them in some weird manner. Whatever that was, it worked. Order and the chip size have a lot to do with it.

Thx Wayne. I was going to try and reverse telecine the TV spots back to 23.98 or 24p but I have other video clips and news clips that will be going into a case study. Those are 29.97 so I’d like to keep things at the frame rate for my SD sequence.
I’m doing a test now and will see how Compressor does at deinterlacing the 1080i footage.

Andy, your solution worked. I tested this with another sequence I did a while back and your right, it seems to be Grow behavior. I delted it and keyframed the z-space and problem solved. Worked for both.
