Using compressor or FCP, what is a good way to convert 1080i29.97 material to 1080p30 (29.97)? Is it just a matter of transcoding the ProRes HQ file in Compressor and using the frame controls to Deinterlace the footage? Or is it more complicated than that.

The 2 spots at hand were done by outside vendors and most likely shot at 24p (23.98). And pulldown was prob added on output for broadcast. Not 100% sure but just an educated guess. Most of our TV commercials are shot as 24p.

I’m creating a progressive SD sequence using ProRes anamorphic 16×9 at 29.97. I’d like to keep the HD resolution because of some compositing I’ll be doing in Motion. Zooming in, pans and what not. This is for a web deliverable. Which is why I’d like to stay progressive.

Well… Can you output it at 24p?

Web video is not near as picky as broadcast video. Most of the movie trailers you see on the web are 24p. as long as the signal is progressive, 24 or 30 will work just fine.

Do a test and see if it works for you.

Thx Wayne. I was going to try and reverse telecine the TV spots back to 23.98 or 24p but I have other video clips and news clips that will be going into a case study. Those are 29.97 so I’d like to keep things at the frame rate for my SD sequence.

I’m doing a test now and will see how Compressor does at deinterlacing the 1080i footage.
