Thanks Andy. Render quality is set to Best. And not only but it happens during playback in MTN. I’ll try that Move behavior and see what happens. I could always just keyframe the Size or Z-space too. thx.

Thanks guys. Duh, that makes total sense to not downconvert. Plus, with just dropping the 720p footage into the SD timeline I have some room for reframing shots if need be.

Yeah how bout it! Took damn near half the morning, along with looking at and testing stuff in FCP.

Now what if I have footage shot at 720p30PN. Should I simply downconvert to 480i30p (really 29.97 and not 30 fps, the reason I say that is because you have that option in the video tab in compressor). But wouldn’t that be a true progressive frame being shot at PN and not 720p30 which is over 59.94?

My interlaced days are numbered. Thank god!

This has been one of the most informative posts I’ve ever read. You dudes know your stuff.

Working with a progressive display myself and pretty much only creating wed and DVD deliverables. When working in SD, I think I’ll switch to shooting 480i30p with our HVX 200 on both tape and P2.

So, just to recap, I’ll I do is capture the same way as 480i60i using DV NTSC Anamorphic but when it comes to editing, the difference would be to set the Field Dominance to NONE. Is that correct?

Shoot 480i30p
Capture DV NTSC Anamorphic
Edit using DV NTSC Anamorphic Easy Set Up, but change Field to NONE.

Thanks Michael. I am pretty much forced to shoot DV for the one. But the other one will be P2 @ 720. If the Cine gammas are the noisiest, is the anything particular you can recommend? I’ll stick with the standard shoot mode, F1, but I know you can up the Gain from low to med or even high. However that introduces lots of noise. Are there any internal settings in the menu to adjust.

I’ve seen clips from people on YouTube that get pretty good night shots with adjustments to shutter speed and stuff. However, I don’t know enough to make those adjustments on my own. Does anyone have some settings to share?

Great thx. I believe I’ll stay mono then. However, is the described connections the right way to do this with the HVX and mixer? In another topic in the Audio Professionals forum I asked the same sort of question and the response was to have 2 XLR outputs going to the camera inputs 1 & 2. Then having a 1/8″ headphone jack go from camera to mixer TAPE RTN. This was I could monitor the mic input and camera output.

I believe MPEG Streamclip will do the same thing FCP does and that’s add in the incorrect pulldown. You’ll need to use After Effects or even Compressor to convert to 29.97. I don’t have AE so I use compressor. If you do, I’d recommend using the frame controls to help. Set the rate conversion to BEST. This may take a while if you have long clips. I don’t, plus a beafy machine chews through them pretty quickly.

Thx John. I guess my question is it better to have a stereo pair or 2 mono tracks? I’ve been using mono tracks because if one ch was too hot I could use the other ch. And yes, the pan is center.

When would you want mono tracks like this and when would you want a stereo pair? I’m doing most talking head stuff. Studio interviews, man-on-the-street interviews and focus group stuff. Which is the better choice and how do I achieve that with proper set up for HVX and the SD MixPre?

Thats just the thing. Even without the 1/8″ headphone jack, I’m still hearing the audio with the mixer on RTN.
