May 11, 2005 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Making a DVD with no menu, just one single mpeg clip that plays automaticallyIt is possible in Encore, by doing just what Bob recommended.
But if you used PPro to make the clip, it would be easier in Pro by selecting the sequence and then under the File menu select export to DVD. I’m assuming you used Pro because you are using Encore.
That will give you a single clip DVD without having to import into Encore and fool with making first play and all that.
Just a thought, hope that helps.

If you don’t have after effects it’s fairly simple to do it in PP (or any other NLE).
Import what you want as your back ground from PP as an .avi and import it as an asset, but not as a menu at this point.
In the editing of the menu attach the avi into the properties pallette as the background.
(I’m not 100% it’s in the properties pallette’s, as I don’t have Encore open at the moment, but it is obviously under the edit menu workspace…)From there you need to go under file and click “render motion menu”. And then when you check the preview you will see the motion of the video.
The render part was the step I was missing the first time I tried one.
If you want video thumbnails that’s a different process, but you still to click render video under file.
Let me know if this helps.

To add on to what Aanarov said…you actually have the option in 1.5 of using all of the short cuts from FCP or Avid Express.
I use a combo of PP and FCP short cuts. (which means no one else can know my system, nor can I switch quickly back to someone else’s….)
Having worked on FCP 3 and PP 1.5 I would say that yes they are very very similar. Although I prefer how Encore and PP are more integrated.

I switched page up and down, for the previous and next edit, to ; and ‘.
To me that make more sense for JKL editing.
And yes I got the idea from working on FCP…please forgive me…:)

To add on what Mike said, Premiere’s presets states High Quality and Low quality at the front of each description. Use one stated High Quality and compare the results.
Good luck,

April 17, 2005 at 5:01 pm in reply to: Curious about preview, playlist, and next chapter “issue”Thanks for the clarification.
I didn’t realize that about the Pioneer player, so now I’ll consider using another player for reference in the future.
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to dismiss David’s reply, and I’ll certainly add his idea to future projects.
Thanks again for the clarification.

April 16, 2005 at 10:03 pm in reply to: Curious about preview, playlist, and next chapter “issue”David,
Thank for the info, and I see what you’re saying. But my point was that the playlist, in the Preview window under the file menu, does not skip forward from the last chapter to the first chapter between the first and second time. Again only in the Preview Monitor does this happen.
On my set top player a Pioneer 414, a six year old player, the playlist skips forward from timeline 1 to timeline 2 correctly when played there and in Windows Media Player.
I have finished the project and burned all the copies I needed. So I went back to double check to see if the issue was still there, and it was.
So I’m just posting this as a bug, because if the playlist works correctly on a burned DVD, then it most definately should work correctly in the preview monitor. And I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this as well.

Thanks for the clarification. I figured was going to need to get CS, but I just wanted to double check.
Any idea of when CS2 is hitting the streets?
