With PPro I believe you will need a capture or deck card that does the DVPRO50. I don’t think it does natively, like FCP does.

If you don’t have that, then you should have to transfer it to DV 24P. Pro does the Panasonic 24P, but again as I understand its regular DV 4:2:0 not the DVPRO25 4:1:1 codec of Panasonic. Just to make that clarification.

So far all of my projects with Pro have been in DV, so if anyone else knows what I mentioned is wrong, please share.

    Good luck,

Yeah I understand what you are saying.

The problem (if you want to call it that) lies in the DVD spec. In other words you can’t jump from the last chapter on timeline 1 to the first chapter of timeline 2.

Now here is where it gets frustrating or weird depending on your view. SOME DVD players WILL go from the last chapter of timeline 1 to the first chapter of timeline 2. My ancient (circa 1999) Pioneer 414 does this, which how I discovered the same issue you are describing.

But the Encore preview section is preforming according to the DVD spec.

A workaround that has been described is to place another chapter point one-second from the end of each timeline. So when you hit that last chapter point, you get a brief shot of timeline 1, but essentially you are starting just before timeline 2.

So you HAVE done everything correct, but add in the workaround and you will be fine.

If anyone else has a better workaround please post it.

    Good luck.

  • In regards to editing you can definatly do that. When importing 16×9 into a 4×3 project I believe PPro will actually automatically letterbox it, so you will have to adjust later.

I have done the opposite, taken 4×3 into 16×9 and then corrected. A simple scale effect does the trick, very easy to do.

In regards to Encore I am unsure.

In fact it may not even be a part of the DVD spec to allow 4×3 and 16×9 on the same disc, but I could be wrong on that.

Post that question in the Encore or DVD authoring forum.

  • Back to the original post.

The term “professional video” needs a clear definition.

(And as a side note, that is a term I absolutly hate. Shooting 35mm with a multi-million dollar budget doesn’t mean it looks good. Go to your local mutiplex and see what I mean…or look at local car commericals shot on BetaSp…I could go on…)

Because the problem could be in the camera footage or video format that the original poster is refering to.

So to the person who first posted, give a specific definition of the look you are going for and we can help from there.

    Bill,
The letterbox for 4:3 comes in the DVD encoding. If you out put to a 16:9 DVD it will be letterboxed by the DVD player to a 4:3 display.

If you want to output to VHS tape then what you will need to do is open a separate sequence or project that is set to 4:3 and render that timeline, and the sequence or project will be letterboxed as you want it.

As for editing and seeing a 16:9 image on your NTSC monitor more than likely you just have to deal with it “squished”. There are some monitors that are 4:3 that can be set to 16:9, JVC makes an afforable one I believe.

Anyone else correct me if I’m wrong on this parts.

But in short Bill, if you are going to DVD then you don’t have anything to worry about.

    Good luck,

  • Going to tape has always been an option, but I don’t have a deck at the moment and sometimes his weddings are a little longer than a miniDV tape, which is where the hard drive comes in. And a hard drive is cheaper than a new deck.

    Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks Aanarav, I had totally forgotten about the Duck and will probably go that route.

But without needing all of my cuts and transitions, just the final product, could I export to AVI or Quicktime and have him print to tape from there?

    Thanks a bunch.

June 15, 2005 at 2:48 am in reply to: dvd Printer???

    I’ll second Ken on that.

Except I use the R200. It is true that a large run of DVD’s could be trouble some. My largest run has been 20.

But as I think about it, each printer only costs $100 or so. Buy five of them, and print five at a time, see the off the top of my head logic here. Anyway, it’s about the best $100 I’ve spent out of all my equipment.

But on top of that it makes incredible photographs, so I’ve also started using it to print my DVD cases.

June 6, 2005 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Movie Looks black and white problem (real)

You may have already tried this, but just in case you havn’t.

Look at the settings of the movie look, and adjust them and see if that makes a difference.

You didn’t mention which movie look you are using, there are several different choices in the plug-in, tell us which one you are using and we can help from there.

    Good luck,

June 2, 2005 at 2:34 pm in reply to: Premiere with EZDV canopus

Yeah according to the article you’re out of luck.

If you have another regular OHCI card with firewire that should work.

When I was using Premiere 6, I eventually just scrapped my card (a Pinnacle DV500) and went software only. (The crashes seemed to magically disappear…)

But again, you can’t use the EZDV card with Primere.

    Sorry about that.

    Martin

As a sidenote, I don’t know how you paid for the card on eBay, but you can upgrade from 6 to Pro 1.5 for $199, that is probably better use of your money. I would consider that.
