“Pan and scan” 4×3 from a 16×9 video (not HDV)
This is a theoretical question, as I don’t own a 16×9 camera yet. (I’m looking at the Sony DSR-450.) I’m wondering for a true 16×9 camera, like the Sony DSR-500 or 570, if you shoot in 16×9, can you create an edit that is 4×3, with the left and right info cut off? (not letterboxed.) And to go a step further, on a single DVD, can I put 2 versions of the same short program – one that is “squashed” so it will automatically spread out on a 16×9 TV, and the other version that is 4×3, but missing the left and right “extra” info from the 16×9 original. (I don’t want a letterboxed 4×3 version.) I know that in Encore it asks if you are making a 16×9 DVD or 4×3, but I want BOTH versions via a menu choice on the same DVD. I use Premiere Pro for editing…
