Motion was discontinued as a standalone product back in January. It’s unlikely that you’d be able to find a reseller who still has the standalone version in stock but you could try…

If you’re talking about a white series of lines at the top of the image then it is normal to have to crop these out. They are the widescreen signal added by the camera and generally when you go from a DV deck via SDI these will get dropped down into the image area.

DH_WideSafe is designed for 16:9 sequences really. If you’re really looking for adjustable guides that you can overlay on a 4:3 sequence then get our DH_Guides plug-in which is now free:

My setup is fairly unusual – with 2 x 18″ screens I work with the timeline full screen on the right (usually need to work with lots of video and audio tracks and having to scroll up and down annoys me) and then a 4 way split on the left monitor –

    top left: Viewer
    top right: Canvas
    bottom left: Browser
    bottom right: Audio Mixer

and I love the fact that I can set FCP up to the way I want to work.

  • Yes all 3rd party AE filters will only work in 8 bit also I’ve seen a couple of people report that choosing any composite mode other than “Normal” will drop processing down to 8 bit although I haven’t tested it myself.

Well the truth is, no-one’s ever asked for a feather edge control and personally I never have the need to do it. However I agree it’s a good idea for a future version…

Did you enter an email address? From memory I think you have to enter an email else the registration can’t be submitted.

Yes Apple have said that FXPlug will be rolled into FCP in a future release. However the Pro Applications Update isn’t it – just an update for FXPlug within Motion 2.1

June 24, 2006 at 11:33 am in reply to: Digitizing 24 Channels

Up to 24 channel audio capture is supported in FCP5. Most capture cards support up to 8 channels of embedded audio through SDI (though Kona 3 offers up to 16 channels of embedded). I’m not aware of any capture cards which offer more than 8 AES or analogue inputs.

So depending on how many channels you want to capture, the other possibility is to use a separate audio interface such as MOTU or RME. If the interface has Core Audio drivers available then it should appear as a device in FCP’s Capture Preset Editor. There may be A/V sync issues with this method although if you can genlock the audio interface then I would imagine it would work fine.

I doubt there is anyone who has ever tried this but in theory it would work.
