    hi,

just wondering if anyone can help me out. i’m trying to figure a way in which to make the outline of a video box within a clip less defined. sorry for the bad explanantion. i just want to blur the edges of the box i’ve created so it looks more integrated with the clip i’ve placed the box over. i’ve used the dh box filter in digital heaven.

thanks in advance for any advice, hope this is kind of clear

Sequence 1, call it Box Generator.
Drop in your clip, scale it to, say, 60%.
Create a matte behind it, this will be the edge of your box, the border.
Nest this comp or just bring it into your main sequence.
Apply scale to make it the size you want (don’t go over 100% or you’ll need to go back upstream to the Box Generator and rescale your original clip to be larger).
Sue the Crop controls to change the size of the border and Edge Feather to control the softness of the edge.

There are lots of ways to do this.

    Hmmm,

I just went and looked, was surprised that DHbox has no edge feather controls. Very odd for an otherwise perfect plugin. I tried nesting the DHboxed clip and using edge feather in the motion tab, no go, I found that the edge feather plug under the matte heading will work, but it looks cheesey.

    Unfortunate shortcoming, any thoughts Martin?

    Have a wonderful day.

Well the truth is, no-one’s ever asked for a feather edge control and personally I never have the need to do it. However I agree it’s a good idea for a future version…

    Hey Martin,

I never asked for the feather either, but I do think it would be cool. Thanks for an understanding response.

    Have a wonderful day.
