Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy DV to Digibeta

    Hi,

I do a lot of DV documentaries and master them to digibeta for broadcast, I’ve noticed ever since v.5 I get a flickering line at the top of the picture (bottom as well as far as I remember). I have to crop these out before mastering. I guess it’s something to do with the field order difference between DV and Digibeta but I never had this problem with v. 4.5. I’m working in PAL. Does anyone know a wa around this problem or is it here to stay??
    Thanks,

    Johnny White

    Johnny,

Not enough info… What card are you using to feed your video signal to your D-Beta deck? Without that kind of information anyone offering help would be simply hazarding a guess.

    Sorry,

Forgot to say. Using Decklink extreme to output SDI to digibeta deck. Don’t think the problem is on the decklink side but I might be wrong..
    Thanks,

    Johnny

If you’re talking about a white series of lines at the top of the image then it is normal to have to crop these out. They are the widescreen signal added by the camera and generally when you go from a DV deck via SDI these will get dropped down into the image area.

Martin – I hope I’m not hijacking this thread but have you just answered my post of a few weeks back here?

    Original post:

Subject: (OT) what’s the VITC-looking line on my DV deck output?

Not an entirely frivolous post, but I’m really just curious.

My subject line says it all really. It looks a bit like this (in negative):

    — – – – — – – — – – – – – – – – – – – –

I’ve also seen this on the output of a DVD recorder. The line doesn’t change so it’s not VITC. Is it some sort of deck ID? It’s on the line right above active picture (line 22??) so never appears on digitised files.

I see this all the time on-air – mostly on shows that have obviously been ARC’d, where you see it sitting on top of letterboxed pictures. Very distracting and not a good look …
