I don’t know whether this will help but I have definitely seen this issue with basic text generators which were copied and pasted then had their text changed. As soon as the drop shadow was disabled the bad flicker always disappeared. Have any of these clips been copied or pasted or had their attributes copied or pasted? If so, try building them from scratch and seeing if that fixes it.

When you say “paste” I’m guessing you probably mean the insert/overwrite etc keyboard commands which will only work for the main Viewer and not any additional “new viewers”. If you want to work with multiple source viewers then you can put the clip in the sequence by dragging it to the Canvas or Timeline window, or alternatively through regular copying and pasting.

The widescreen setting in the iPod either adds letterbox (widescreen option enabled) or crops the sides (disabled) but it only does something useful if the aspect ratio of the movie is correct, which in this case it isn’t.
The problem is that the “Export to iPod (320×240)” function doesn’t understand the non-square pixels that you’re using in your DVCPROHD sequence. What you need to do is to export a 16:9 aspect ratio movie with square pixels from FCP. You can do this either by setting a custom size in the QuickTime export setting or by using Compressor. If the file is only destined for iPod only use, you’d be looking at making a 320×180 movie but also remember that iPods will automatically scale down a larger size created for a web audience (say you wanted to make a 480×270 movie for both web and iPod playback).

The Field Dominance setting in the Sequence Setting is what determines whether renders use fields or not. Setting it to “None” will render progressive rather than interlaced.

This is the relevant section of the Final Cut Studio license agreement (initial 2005 release):
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time.
Pretty clear cut. The license agreement has been changed for the FCS5.1 release, but it seems less clear:
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you. The Apple Software may be used to reproduce materials so long as such use is limited to reproduction of non-copyrighted materials, materials in which you own the copyright, or materials you are authorized or legally permitted to reproduce. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time. You may make one copy of the Apple Software in machinereadable form for backup purposes only; provided that the backup copy must include all copyright or other proprietary notices contained on the original.
The first sentence suggests that you can install on two systems (no mention about running both simultaneously). The third sentence says the software can’t exist on more than one computer at a time, unless they meant to say can’t RUN on more than one computer at a time. OK I give in. My head hurts…

I don’t think you can change to non-drop. The assumption is probably that most projects will be under 1 minute so it won’t matter.

I’ve since learned that Adobe changed something in AE7 which broke the .motn import and I’m told Apple counter-fixed it with Motion 2.1!
