  • Old mercalli 2 (the one native to last few vegas versions) does not support 4k – it crashes.

You need to upgrade to mercalli v4 either by buying vegas 14 with mercalli or if using vegas 14 “edit” version then get it from ProDAD (or sometimes vegasaur site has a deal).

  • Take a look at Vegasaur, should do exactly what you need.

  • Nope. The blu-ray files are compressed mpeg, typically h.264.

Uncompressed 1920 x 1080 24p is about 9 GB PER MINUTE. (Try your own test render of a few seconds to confirm this.)

  • Vegas 13 & 14 support h264 natively. I am surprised to hear vegas 12 doesn’t – but I don’t have any way to test that. Maybe download the latest trail version and try it out.

    @ Roger Bansemer

I use mercalli v4 plug-in all the time, but have yet to find a use for the cmos fixer plug-in- I guess there must be a case where it helps, but not for me (GH4 and Gopro Hero 3+ footage).

Also, the CMOS fixer is REALLY SLOW, so not fun to work with on the timeline.

You could try making a duplicate clip (CTRL drag) and then compositing it on top of the original with a blend mode of multiply (mask) … set that on track header .

My GH4 4k footage always crashed vegas 13 stabilization. I think it is too old (mercalli v2).

Suggest you try vegas 14, or upgrade stabilization to Mercalli v 4

…also, note that it is only the 24p frame rate that does this. 29.97 imports OK. I find I can quickly clean up the 24p files on the timeline by “double click”, “s” (split file), “delete”.

I have had this happen too. Seems that it won’t work with nested sequences and some other “complex” timeline elements (can’t remember the specifics right now.)

Maybe try just a simple timeline with a couple of clips and see if you can get that to work, then start trying to isolate the offending element.

“These cards has specs that are SO much better that Q4000 and FX4800, still BMD or Autodesk says the old cards are to be used… ???”

In Blackmagic’s configuration guide for windows they state –

“The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 3072 MB is the most
powerful and lowest cost GPU card for Resolve. NVIDIA
Quadro and Tesla cards provide less performance to
Resolve but can be used if other software on the same
computer requires Quadro or Tesla cards.”

Lots of good info in the guide for making a “kickass” resolve system. You can download it from BM in the support section.
