Even if you adjust with FXs, you’re going to need to determine just how much clipping has ocurred. It may not be salvageable.

John, here’s a technique I stumbled across on the Sony Vegas forum a few years ago that may be of some help.

Put 3 filters, “Invert” (at 100%), “Color Corrector”, “Invert” (at 100%).
Then lift up the gamma of the color corrector in the middle.
This darkens highlights first, in the logarithmic fashion, more like a “iris closing” way.
You can also put a color corrector secondary to select reds and lower the gamma a bit.

You could try making a duplicate clip (CTRL drag) and then compositing it on top of the original with a blend mode of multiply (mask) … set that on track header .

One way that works very well in helping overexposed footage is to:
1. put “levels” on your event and bring the levels down.
2. put “curves” on the same event and bring the levels back up with your curves.
That will bring back some of the blown out colors.
