When you use the HDLink application does it crash?
I just started using the HDlink program for converting
P2 files into CineformAVI’s. I’ve noticed that
HDlink is incredibly unstable. I mean it crashes everytime
I try to use the quality mode “high”. I can use all the
other modes including “film scan” no prob.I have also noticed that if I don’t have it setup
correctly ie removing 3:2 for 1080p24 then rescaling
seems to make it crash. Alas I don’t have my own P2
card yet so I haven’t been able to test more. Just a
few clips with a borrowed P2 card.Point is, HDlink is buggy and the error checking/crash
diagnostic leaves some to be desired.I would make sure you have HDlink setup just right
and then try one file at a time.Just my 2cents.

Jerry,
Whew… I thought I had gotten suckered. 🙂 No really
I just didn’t want to purchase anything that I didn’t
need. But after re-examining why I purchased AspectHD
in the first place and understanding when Adobe is
offering you are right. AspectHD will really help with
the HD workflow. I especially like the multiple layers
of HD content in real-time.Thanks for your post. Now can if I just get my P2
card!!!MBW

Hi All,
Just to chime in… MXF is not a MPEG wrapper. Most
of the talk these days is the MXF files from a Panasonic
camera. I am sure other cameras use this format, but on
the Panasonic, MXF is a DVCPro 25, 50, or HD file. Premiere
Pro does not support the MXF file, but Raylight and AspectHD
from Cineform are useful products for this. Raylight allows
the dragging and dropping of MXF files into Premiere Pro
where as AspectHD converts the MXF file to a Cineform
AVI. Part of the AspecctHD software is HDLink and the
MXF files must go through this before using in PPro. However,
Once the conversion is done, any program that can use
AVI files can use the CineForm AVIs.Hope this helps.

June 19, 2007 at 9:29 pm in reply to: best export settings for DV footage from Premiere Pro into AE 7 for keyingCam,
I wouldn’t export it. You can use the original DV
footage in AE to key it. DV is frustrating hard to key
so any recompression is bad. On the other hand you could
cut and paste the sequence into an AE composition too.MBW

Marcus,
Ah ha…. Now I get it. The raylight decoder is used
with CineForm, but that flow allows conversion to CineForm
intermediate, where as just using the Raylight interface
allows editing directly the MXF files. Okay so no matter
what, the actual P2 card files need to go through some
sort of conversion before being usable in PPro.Thanks for the help Marcus!!!

The author… Wow… Thanks for taking the time to help me out.
So if I understand correct, when using the Raylight decoder,
there is less articfacting than the Panasonic viewer decoder. I
must have missed the link on workflow for Raylight. Need to go
back an check it out again. So, how does this all work with the
CineForm AspectHD. I see mention of it on your sight, but I’m
not clear. The Cineform site seems to indicate that there
intermidiate format is great… Hmmm.. I think there is more to
learn…Thanks again!
