Agreed. Using the original DV footage would be easiest.
However, trimming down the clips to only the selected pieces to be keyed would be useful. Copy/pasting the sequence into AE would certainly work…or save your Adobe Premiere Pro project after creating your “selects” on a separate sequence and then open the PPro project in AE and open that sequence as a comp…works great.
A bit of advice on keying DV footage that I was given here at the Cow…
In AE, take each separate key clip to it’s own comp and copy/paste it to create two identical clips, one above the other (aligned). Take the top layer and put a small blur on it (1 or 2 pixels…fast blur is probably fine) and assign the “color” blend mode to the top layer. This will smooth out the color a bit.
…then use the comp as a the key source in another comp.
