Wow, that looks incredible, and would be an excellent solution for my application. I’ll be sure to download it on Monday and post my thoughts!

I’m still open to other suggestions, if anyone else is reading!

    Thanks a bunch!

Cinema4D is probably your best bet, and (from my experience) more standardized than Lightwave. Cinema works great with vector files, and puts a lot of the animation controls right in front of you. I come from a Maya background, and while Cinema feels “dumbed down” at times, and has its pitfalls (like any program), it should fit nicely into your workflow.

Just to throw in my two cents:

Although I have my frustrations with trying to select certain values in AE on a Wacom tablet (especially on a high-res screen), it is safe to say that some of those nit-picky problems won’t go away without an interface upgrade from Adobe. Flame is so easy to work with on a tablet simply because the buttons are large and a lot of simple operations are gestural.

Does anyone know if Adobe is interested in making a tablet-friendly interface?

If you’re wondering about the rings themselves, it’s called radio waves. Effect>Generate>Radio Waves (I think).

    Hope this helps!

Hm, it seems like your method should do the trick. Here’s a slightly more complicated solution:

1 – Create your mask path in either Illustrator or After Effects
2 – Use the expression pick whip to link your emitter position to a null object (assuming you know how – be sure to check out Andrew’s tut on this https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/light_streaks_2/)
3 – Copy your mask path and paste it into the Null’s position (This will give you your solid stroke)
4 – Create another particle layer, and link your emitter to the same Null (this will be your secondary emitter, the one that shoots out particles)

From there, it should be just a matter of tweaking your emission settings. I hope I’m clear enough, as this can be a little tricky.

    Hope it works out!

  • There (at least at one time) is a known issue with multiprocessing where AE will spit out color bars for certain elements (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/913328). Unfortunately, I have ran Adobe Updater, and there are no updates at this time.

Jan – Is there a particular update that fixed this? Is there any way to make sure I have it installed? I know Adobe Updater isn’t perfect, and would just like to make sure that I have things configured properly.

I’m going to do some test renders today, and will be sure to post my progress.

    Thanks everyone!

  • Thanks guys – I’ll look into this tomorrow. Yes, I’m using CS3. I’d love to use multiprocessing but fear the color bar errors that I’ve gotten in the past – any suggestions there?

Thanks, Bill! So, if I work at 768×432, square, I’ll be able to easily translate it to anamorphic PAL widescreen?

Thank you so much for your patience!
