The easier way is to not use the audio in your b all clips .

1) use shift +2 key which will insert, connect, overwrite your B roll as picture only . skips the step of adding B roll than deleting the unwanted audio.

2) If you already have B roll clips with audio in the project, you can select all those clips in the timeline with the timeline index. Go to the inspector audio tab and uncheck the audio tracks. Done

I am not using X right now so I can’t say for certain, however there are many customizable commands available in X that go well beyond the standard keyboard commands in terms of invoking variations functions within the app. Easiest thing to do is open customize keyboard, do a search perhaps on ‘lanes’ and see what comes up. You may be able to create a command to toggle audio lanes.

The time line index can be your friend here when selecting a bunch of clips scattered through a time line .

I suspect that the muticamclip I’m trying to replace fails at replacement because there are some edits in not just cutting between angles. If the multicam was untouched save for angle changes and I tried a replace edit with a version B multicam clip, the replacement might work.

I’m still a fan of FCPX or just X to differentiate between legacy Final Cut and the present version. Some how Final Cut Pro just doesn’t cut it for me.

Currently I am not using much in the way of plug ins for fcp I do have some coremelt plug ins which are used infrequently . I also have color finale, again lightly used . In my case an M1 Mac mini might not be a bad choice . Assuming that the plug ins will come along at some point the M1 mini might not be a bad choice for me .

You don’t say what material you are editing. Your 2012 mac book pro is a bit long in the tooth, I know because I have one…. Also not mentioned is how your libraries are structured. If you put the library on your internal drive ( assuming you have an SSD drive) and the media on an external drive connected via thunderbolt or even USB to a SSD drive will help.

Working in proxy mode with help speed things up.

If you are using a stock internal spinning HD for libraries, you’re really sunk. Those drives will not keep up with the needs of HD or greater media.

Replacing the stock HD with a SSD drive will help. Structuring your libraries as I have suggested will also help speed things up . Of course so will a later model laptop can make a big difference.

This seems pretty easy. Drop picture in place, without sound. Do a separate edit connecting sound to picture at the head, so now you’ve got your clip both sound and picture in place. Chop away at sound, re arrage as deired. Once finished messing with sound, select the edited sound and picture, opt.-G, make it a compound clip and bada- boom- no?
