December 12, 2012 at 7:14 pm in reply to: Searching for parfocal constant aperture lenses

My Sony Z1 died and I made the move the Canon 5DMark11I about 6 months ago. As far as parafocal lenses with constant aperture, the only ones that I know of are the Canon 16-35 2.8 L (non IS), and the 70-200 VR11. The kit lens 24-105 is a great lens for video, but NOT a Parafocal. When you focus at 24 and zoom in, the focus shifts. Focus is a bitch in video, you have to stop recording to focus. The Live view with the 10X foom in works great for focusing (before shooting)

  • Thanks for your input on thunderboldt. I am very aware of the data loss potential in using raid 0, but I need all the 8TB space and the speed of raid 0. I am looking at the G Tech 8Tb because it is only $750. I asked about “partitioning” the 8TB raid into (4) 2tb partitions so I can both organize my projects and “clone” each 2tb drive on external drives for back up. I don’t want to buy another 8tb for back up. Thanks

  • I use a ScanDick Extreme 32gig Class 10. All class 10 are NOT the same. My old ADATA 8gig Class 10 will not work.

[Shane Ross] ” You cannot make HD files and put them onto a regular DVD. It doesn’t work that way.” It works for me. I have been making SD DVD’s that look great, by importing a HD 1440×1080 60i ProRes LT file directly into EITHER Toast 10 or even IDVD. I am using 1440x 1080 60i settings because I have been shooting in HDV. The quality looks great, even on a 50 inch . It is a one step process, just drag the PRORES file into either program. It takes about 3 hours to encode and burn the first DVD from a 60 min source

Thanks for the info. So if I put my 2/3 in 19×8 that would be 152mm on the TELE end, with the 2x extender that equals 304mm, times the 1.3 factor equals 395mm. So in 35mm terms, 395mm x 5.4 equals 2133mm. Wow, no wonder I was seeing fleas on Trump’s hair @ 1000ft…

  • Thanks for your response. It is one (1) external sata drive in a case using firewire 800.

July 12, 2010 at 1:26 am in reply to: Making 1080I HDV into 1080P in FCP7 Sequence

Thanks for your advice. Let me try to make my situation clear. I am shooting a project for a client (I am only shooting) and I am turning over the tapes to them to edit. They want me to shoot with a SONY Z7U camera in the HDV setting of 1440×1080 @23.97. I wish to use some additional cameras for some other POV’s which are not the SOny Z7U. One is a SOny Z1 HDV @ 1080I, and the other is a crash cam that shoots @ 1920 x 1080p @ 30fps on a MPEG-4 format. I want to take the footage from these cameras, put them into FCP into a sequence (different seg for each camera) that matches the SONY Z7U camera (HDV 1440×1080 @24P ) render it and out put the sequence into the camera (using it as a recorder) I have to give them HDV 1080p tapes @24p. No other formats. I know these is not the way to do it “right” but this is the way it is. Will it work? Thanks for your insight.

Has anyone tested the new Nikon P100 with 1080P? It is a cheap $350.00 camera with a 26x optical zoom. I heard it takes crappy stills but the HD video is great at certain focal lengths it you hold the camera steady or on a tripod..
