  • Many files going offline and spinning Beach balls..

    Hello:

I am having problems with a project of mine in FCP 7.0 It is a large project with about 1.5 TB of HDV media all on one drive. Everything was fine until recently, now when I open the project, about 300 files are now “offline” I try to reconnect them, using “search” with no results, then I use locate and about 10 files are found. These files are on the drive and I can easily search to find them individually using spotlight to find the path. So any ideas why this is happening? Should I upgrade to the latest 7.? I am also getting spinning beach balls, and have to force quit, even though I haved trashed the preferences and repaired the permissions. Please help, and ideas? Thanks in advance

Certainly upgrade to 7.0.2 . There were lots of little issue with the first release of version 7. Where is the media? If it is on an external, how is it connected. Are there firewire bus conflicts or any reason why the drive might momentarily disconnect.

Also are you on Snow Leopard and is it up to date. There were early problems with esata drives and SL if you are using esata.

Thanks for your response. It is one (1) external sata drive in a case using firewire 800.

I’m having exactly the same problem. Any solutions so far?

Right now I’m seeing if it’s my harddrive. Maybe it’s wigging out and causing FCP to wig.

I tried everything, including a new install.

In the end, somehow it was the FCP project file. Which is weird, because I had also gone back to earlier versions.

I was able to open the project for long enough to export an XML of my main timeline. Then, I created a completely new FCP project and imported the xml. Works perfectly now.
