    Chris,

It’s either A). the firewire cable/connection or B). a setting discrepancy between your capture settings and what the JH3 is sending.

Double check that the “flavor” of TC on the tape is what you’re trying to capture. That would be my first call.

Do you have a different way of digitizing, like an AJA or Blackmagic card? RS-422 deck control is a much more stable/accurate method for digitizing. If that deck and that tape work with this alternate way in, then you know your firewire is the flaw.

I’m putting my money on a wrong setting.

    Good luck.

The fcp project shows 460mb when I “apple I” it.

    That’s BIG!

Anything over 400mb is asking for trouble. Our typical project sizes are usually below 250.

    Try these:

The more “real Time” you want, the more expensive the solution. That’s why iCHat is so popular… it’s basically free.

I agree with Mr. Bogie on this one.

Use a digital SLR, then just import the still frames in a sequence.

Another advantage to this approach over the “live camera to FCP”, is the resolution of your basic cheap digital camera is approx 5-10 times that of even HD! Therefore, you can reframe or do moves in post that would be impossible if you brought in the “live image” at even HD resolution.

I’ve done a fair amount of “time lapse” photography using this workflow and the results are astounding, considering how cheap the cameras are compared to a true HD motion camera.

Theoretically, media manager should do this.

Practically, we NEVER media manage audio. We pass the original audio all the way to final on-line intact and only manage picture files.

Audio files are small enough not to have to worry about space issues.

I would suggest creating a small test project and testing the workflow to see if it does what you expect.

It was interesting to see that Entertainment Partners, another payroll company in Hollywood took out a full page ad in the trades to let everyone know that THEY are in good financial shape, and have no looming problems.

[David M.] “all cut in the same fashion with 3 camera setups and then collapsed.”

I’ve found that collapsing is often not enough. You have to actually replace, shot by shot the multiclip with it’s corresponding “original” angle. Do that, and the results are predictable. Don’t do it and it’s anyone’s guess.

Yes, this takes a very long time to do, but it may be the only thing that works dependably.

I think the issue here is NOT HD to SD, but multiclipping.

We use MM everyday too. We’ve just got to do a LOT of manual workarounds ’cause nearly all of our stuff is multiclipping.

    Bob,
    You’re NOT imaginining things.

Media manager and multiclip are NOT friends.

You’re correct that the work around is to go back and “cut in ” the original media.

I don’t know a solution for this other than that. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

Wirecast is available for BOTH mac and PC. When we’re going out to the web, we use a PC version, since it seems to play nicer with the “other end”… ie. Akami.

Yes, that’s who we used. I wasn’t “hands on” for this, but I do remember a lot of phone calls and finger pointing! If you’re doing a live feed, you have to make sure that your end is solid. What happens once it reaches them… who knows. At least you can say it left your building OK.
