    Hello,

In a few months I begin offlining a film with an editor who is a couple hundred miles away. I am fully prepared to exploit iChat during the session and review QuickTimes as often as necessary, but am looking (and hoping) for a real-time solution. Aside from setting up a video iChat on another computer in the suite to visually monitor the session, does anyone know of a method or software that would enable a producer to supervise an edit in real-time?

Any thoughts, tips, leads, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’d check out Yugma.com – it’s conferencing software similar to WebEx or GoToMeeting but there’s a free version you can try out at no cost. You can see their system or share yours, and it happens in real time. I’ve used the software before – and while there are some quirks with it I’d recommend it.

I will warn, however, that video playback will not be in real time, and it will be very hard to follow if that is your main purpose. You will, however, be able to see the whole interface, what they’re doing, give guidance, etc. It might work – give it a shot.

    Try these:

    https://www.syncvue.com/moreinfo.htm

    https://www.cozimo.com/

The more “real Time” you want, the more expensive the solution. That’s why iCHat is so popular… it’s basically free.

SyncVUE works extremely well. We’ve used it here in the past and it’s a great economical solution with both parties in perfect sync during a review.

Hopefully, whatever system you use allows creative freedom for the editor.

I’ve had jobs where there was so much supervision, I was essentially a voice activated edit machine, and it was no fun at all.
