Yeah, I can…. I should have added, that’s what we are doing. The only problem seems to b a two second delay between the deck and FCP. Makes it difficult to get critical timing.

Very common mistake…
FCP defaults to 16 channels of audio on most of the codecs, except DV which only has two channels. You have to select the number of channels you want in the Log & Capture window – Clip Settings tab – scroll down to audio and select your two channels you want.
When you delete the prefs, FCP will revert to this and most of the time when FCP crashes, it reverts to this also.

All very good points, John.
The only reason I say black balance and white balance daily comes from my many years of video production, and its very surprising how many people will start shooting with doing either process.
I tell all my guys to at least black balance daily. Sony cameras tend to shoot on the cool side so we use Warm Cards to bump up the image to the warmer side of things.

Give a real good look at the Gitzo tripods. They are lightweight and sturdy. Plus, they have the advantage of 100 percent posable legs. Meaning, when working in nature, you can set your legs for any enviornment.

Are you guys using Colorista 1.01?
I have a similar setup as yours and I haven’t seen anything like this at all. If you do have the newest version, I would suggest that you delete your prefs and restart FCP.

You can adjust for this, to a point. But what will usually happen is that you will start to see edges of your video.
The reason why your buildings are being cut off is due to the fact that SmoothCam has figured the best smooth motion which means blowing up the image enough to keep from seeing the edges of your video frame. It takes into account of edges showing and blows up the image to crop these out.

The answer to this question is… what looks good to you eye? There are many ways to get good slo-mo in FCP. Optical Flow is one method but not the only answer to all slo-mo.

Well, this all depends on your media drive and how much is on the drive.
Yes, Optical Flow is awesome but there is a hit in rendering and analyzing video times. The major issue that people run into is length of time to render and analyze. All of this factors upon the length of your clip. If what you want to analyze is only about 10 seconds and your clip is 2 minutes, Optical Flow will analyze all 2 minutes. The way to circumvent this issue is to write a new file with the proper amount of time you want to apply the Optical Flow slo-mo.

From reading the posts, it seems to me that you are importing this footage into an SD project, letting FCP change your new sequence to DVCProHD 1080i60, right?
If so, this will cause your letterboxing issue. SD video by its truest sense is 4×3 video. You have to set the video to anamorphic before you can get 16×9 SD video. This sounds like where your video has gone wrong.
Look in your bin window and scroll the window to the right until you see the anamorphic column, is it checked? If so, uncheck it.
Am I on the right track? The earlier posts are somewhat confusing.

So basically… there’s no menu item pointing to these commands. Just commands that I have to tell it by customizing my keyboard. Can’t we have button to add to button bars?
