Two things.
Have you checked to make sure that you have your FCP set Time Code Breaks to Warn After Capture,
and have you reset your prefs?I’m sure you have, but just checking.

Before you totally rip your hair out….
Check and see how the camera records timecode. The default is Auto. This causes these kinds of problems every single time. Set your camera to DF or NDF and all of your timecode issues will disappear. we had the exact problem you have and this was the answer for us.

Does the Quicktime file play correctly?
The file that you export from FCP could be flagged wrong. I have had this to happen in FCP 5.1.4 before. It seems like that Quicktime doesn’t understand anamorphic video very well. I’ve had to physically change the clip size in Quicktime to get Compressor to compress it properly.

Now, Bogie… You know that’s not true.
HD going to DVD (if compressed correctly) looks alot better than SD video compressed for DVD. I have NEVER received a complaint about the picture quality besides TVs are going the way of 16×9 and it only makes sense to shoot this way.
In order for Josh to get the best results, I would compress his program using the best settings and lay it off to a dual layer DVD. It will look stunning.

Well… my take on this would be to use it for a ballpark estimate.
I can’t say for sure if they are dead on but it’s not a engineering scope by any means and this is just an added feature to the monitor. So… my guess would be not to trust it with your life. If you are in the field with this monitor, it will definitely get you in the ballpark. BUT, if you’re in the edit room, use a Tektronix or Leader scope if you can afford one.
Look at it this way… How accurate can it be if its just a selling point? If Panasonic truly made it accurate, it would be awesome. So far, I haven’t seen or heard any complaints about this feature so it must be somewhat accurate.
