Is the only reason for using the Canon XLH1 for the 2x lens? Do you already own the Z1U’s? If so, you can purchase from B&H and Century Optics makes a 1.6 Tele-Converter that will give you the lens you need. It works wonerfully for us.

Oh… I agree completely! It definitely angered myself and my producer. We actually talked to the company itself and they told us that full support is not available until the next firmware update.
Let me say, the drive does record DVCPRO HD. BUT, you have to control the drive manually and you cannot review anything that has been recorded unless you dump to a laptop immediately. THAT’S USELESS!!!

Not just yet… Next software revision. The best option to do this is to use the CitiDisk as a dump drive for the P2 cards.

Well…… Let me warn you. The Citidisk is not quite there just yet. At the moment, it cannot directly record any HD until the next firmware revision. But here’s the way around it. Use your P2 cards to record as normal and dump them to the Citidisk drive until you almost fill it up, then you can dump it to you computer. Its a real pain, but it is useable (barely). It takes time but it is effective if you already purchased this drive.
Personally, I would say if you can afford it, purchase the Firestore drive. It does work (mostly).

Yeah… But its Canon HDV which is different from Sony HDV and JVC HDV. Everybody reading this needs to understand that each manufacturer has branded HDV for their own equipment, so you have to purchse their equipment to playback their tapes. And if by some odd reason, a Sony machine can read a JVC tape – its just by coincidence. Sony didn’t design the machine to purposely read JVC tapes.
Personally, I think this practice is completely unethical but what are you going to do… All we can do is hope that someone will make a machine that will read all of these derivations of HDV.

You can purchase an A-B serial port selector box from just about any “real” computer shop, not the retail giants. I’ve used one of these for many years without problems.

Its just Canon’s way of saying we are going to do something different. And that’s why FCP has the trouble it has with Canon. For some strange reason, everybody out there is doing their own thing isntead of worrying about camera features and quality.
It seems to me, it would have been much easier for Canon to record true 24p and market that way instead of Canon’s frame mode. On the XL1 and XL2, the frames modes were the same. So, trying to edit 24p was impossible.

No… I don’t think you can do that. But you could have one version on one system and another version on a second system. Are you worried about compatibility?
