This video is hell. 8 cameras using DVD-Rs, XL-1, XL-H1, and F900. And now to get all of these things into one project. This is literally the most exhausting project I’ve ever had to work on.

So I just learned today that Canon HDV is different from Panasonic HDV is different from Sony HDV. So after we rented the Sony HDV deck and found out from the rental house that it can’t be used with Canon HDV, then we got a Canon XL-H1. Is there something else that I need to download from Apple or somewhere to be able to use it, because the basic HDV 1080i60 isn’t doing it. Another codec?

Also, the footage is in 24P. I don’t know if that’s an issue or anything, but I think that should be enough info.

    Thanks for your help.

    [Michael Black FCP] “Panasonic HDV”

No such thing. Panasonic is DVCPRO HD. Much better.

The 24f format from the Canon camera is not yet supported by FCP. More good news, right? Support is coming soon. In the meantime, the only way to get 24f footage from that camera into FCP is via the SDI outputs of the camera to an HD SDI input on an HD capture card…and to capture at DVCPRO HD.

Ok… that’s working. Kind of. Any idea how or if I can have deck control or am I SOL?

that’s strange. My other response didn’t post.

So I’m going in using the KonaLH. So far so good. I’m at least seeing it.

I don’t have the camera or I’d have an answer for you. I don’t know if it is controllable. RS-422 connection on it?

It’s a beauty of a camera. I’m looking at the footage now and it looks better than the stuff that was shot on the F900s.

No RS-422. Looks like I’ll have to run it on manual.

Shane, I don’t think you are entirely correct that 24f is not FCP supported. I believe the latest update has a 24f Canon Codec.

However, the latter part of your post is perfectly correct. I have been importing 24f into FCP DVCProHD via a circuitous method for the past 6 months and it looks excellent.

24f HDV from the Canon and 24p HDV from the JVC were demo’d at NAB…Apple had working FCP versions that were running on their machines. However, that FCP version (5.2.1) has yet to be released. No release date as of yet.

Yeah, the image from that Canon is sweet indeed.

What’s 24f (F, on Canon’s site, but no explanation of what it is).
Is it 24P, just a different name?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    I’m assuming as much.

You know, I’m all for competition and everything, but can we just have one damn format?

OK, after doing some googling, I found this info that says 24F is not progressive
and not interlaced either. It’s a proprietary thing Canon does to make it look like
24p. I guess the proof will be in what it looks like.
