Have you setup your PDW-1500 for E-E, instead of PB (playback)?

The problem there is that you need a capture card for the Mac Book Pro. Which at this time, there are none existing.

I would suggest something on the “pro” range of things. We are using the Mackie’s Tapco monitors. At B&H, they run for about $500. BUT they are awesome!

For Mac and FCP, there is one major competitor to the XSAN. It called the TerraBlock by Facilis Technology.
It is absolutely AWESOME! I had a salesman introduce it to me just before NAB. So I took a good look at it while at NAB. I watched footage that was shot and edit 2k and it was flawless! It can be used to hookup any computer using any software and they can share it flawlessly. You can have you FCP stations hooked up with Avids and PCs running Premiere or Vegas sharing files all at the same time!
It impressed us so very much that we are converting over to it next week!

Jeremy is absolutely correct. The latest update to Compressor has really screwed up some things. One thing is being able to detect field order. Go back and re-compress in Compressor but this time change your field order of the default. It happened to me recently.

Just recently I sent out a DVCPRO HD timeline of roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes (a feature film) and it took it about 30 hours of rendering only to tell me that it couldn’t write the file. I was using the H.264 codec. My reason in doing this was to send a file to the guy working on the movie soundtrack. Anyway…. I wasted all weekend getting out a Quicktime file that I had to convert to an AVI file for my music guy.

Well, in that case, everything is working fine. You’ll never get the Apple monitor to match your deck audio or the computer audio as long as you are using firewire. The best case solution for you is to monitor your video and audio from the deck OR get yourself a capture card that fits your needs.

You have to go into your capture and sequence settings and tweak them for the correct frame rate. It messed me up too… Oh well….

If that is the case and its still doing it…. Set your frame offset to 9. That is what the frame offset is for, you know.

That is interesting…. I have only used the transfer software a couple of times yet since we seem to use the settings that FCP doesn’t have support for. Anyway… when working with files (instead of tape stock), always take serious care of your footage. Its not like tape were if something where to become corrupt that you can just redigitize.
The only problems I have been having is dealing with output. I can ONLY output (using the export function of the software) by selecting “Recompress All Frames” and it takes an eternity on a 35 min program (bars, tone, program content, and a black slug at end so that actual show is past the 30 min mark when dubbing to BetaSP).
Here’s another MAJOR problem. When outputting to disc using the software, you have to set your audio to 8 channels dual mono. Ok…. But when you play back your sequence of your show and you have a talent that has been recorded on one channel and possibly a second guest on another channel…. Your host is only on channel one – panned to the left and your guest is on channel two – panned to the right. YES… I can downmix for editing BUT when I write to disc, my talent is back to split channel. Ok, Sony…. How about fixing this one?
