Try removing RAM. Have you tested to see if your RAM is good? Sounds like you might have a bad RAM module. Use Apple’s Hardware Test that came with your computer’s CD that contains OSX.

No. Its happening for me in the Log & Capture. I log all of my footage and then capture. Sometimes with some clips it looses the metadata and resets the timecode and reel names. I’m puzzled by this myself.

What version of Mac OS is everybody running?

I will have to say that I have bee seeing this bug myself. I had it to happen a few times last week and its really bugging me.

I have FCS (FCP 5.1.2), MacOS 10.4.8, and Mac Intel dual 3.0, 2 gig of RAM, AJA Kona 3, ATTO Celerity FC card.

Well, it seems that you footage and sequence are at different settings. That would cause a problem. Set your sequence to match you footage and everything will play out fine. I have the same equipment (except that we are running a TerraBlock insted of the Ciprico) and I have no problems with DVCPro HD and the Kona3. Have made sure that you are using the 720p59.94 as your primary on the Kona Control Panel?

NEVER trust a pre-format! Manufacturers will claim that they are making things easy on you BUT it always bites you when you least expect it.

Reformat your drive to Mac Extended (not journaled) and don’t include the Mac OS9 disk driver files.

If that doesn’t work, tell us more about your computer and software.

[5Eyedfilms] “I’m working on a different project and bringing in After Effects elements (Animation codec at same resolution as project sequence – NTSC DV) with text into a Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 project. When I drop it into the timeline it looks fine, but once I render, everything becomes blotchy and grainy. I have my rendering set to RGB and all my resolutions for playback are on full. It appears grainy and blotchy when not even in motion, just stationary in the canvas window.”

You’re probably seeing the DV compression artifacts. DV is not a good codec to work with graphics. Check your sequence and see what field dominance you have. Next, check to see what quality of rendering you have in the Motion settings (located in the Sequence Settings, Video Processing Tab), look at Motion Filtering Quality. Its probably set to Normal, if it is, set it to Best. If it is set to Best, set it to Normal. I have seen this and this usually fixes the problem. And here’s one more thing you can try, move your graphic up or down one pixel. Sometimes, graphic files will get out of kilter with FCP.

Give that a try and see what happens.

I think I may have found the problem. I trashed my preferences for a second time and all seems well…. But that makes me curious as to what is going on if I had to trash my preferences twice to remove the wierdness. Hmmmmm…..

No… the footage is continuous timecode and all drop frame. Most of the time it works but sometimes it doesn’t. It boggles my mind.
