Dropping frames when capturing HDV footage from an HDV Deck
I am using FCP HD 4.5 and I am trying to capture HDV footage from an HDV deck. Each time I try to capture, it proceeds smoothly until about 5 or 6 minutes in. Then the preview monitor will freeze and it will inform me I have dropped frames. I have an external hard drive with sufficient space. I did successfully capture a clip that was only 4 min and 30 secs. In my capture limit settings it says it will capture up to 30 minutes. I even tried a different tape but after 5 or 6 minutes it will drop frames and stop. I think this is a Final Cut setting issue. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Post which drive you are using as your scratch disk and check it’s format… needs to be Mac OS extended… is it?

Here is the link of the specs of the drive I am using on my scratch disk. It says it was pre formated for Mac. But if you look it over maybe you will find something wrong. Thanks for all your help. Also is it even possible to capture HDV with 4.5 or do I need some version of FCP 5?

NEVER trust a pre-format! Manufacturers will claim that they are making things easy on you BUT it always bites you when you least expect it.
Reformat your drive to Mac Extended (not journaled) and don’t include the Mac OS9 disk driver files.
If that doesn’t work, tell us more about your computer and software.
